Yes, '49-'51 Mercury oil pan and special pickup.

V8 Bob is spot-on.... '49-'51 Merc. Here are a couple more detail pictures. These pickups are rare and hard to find anymore. I guess everyone threw them away, or at least didn't realize how hard they would become to find. They show-up on eBay occasionally, and I've seen ASKING prices of $350-$475 for these things. That whole assembly MIGHT CARRY a part number of "8CM-6615".

That price is crazy. Beat the bushes, get on Instagram and post a want ad with East Coast Mike (aka Partswapper). No way would I pay that. They are out there. Just need to beat the bushes a bit.

That said, I do find it interesting how flathead blocks tend to shed their oil pans. Not sure why. Most blocks I encounter in the wild are without a pan.

Likely that most either found something wrong upon inspection, or decided to undertake more disassembly at a later date, or at least put it back together later on when time permits. And we all know how THAT PLAN turns-out!

If that special Merc pump pickup can't be sourced, is there a non sheilded pump pickup that would work in its place?

I think you could get away without that extra shield. I run my french flathead without any sort of shield - just the cup with the mesh around 5/8" above the bottom of pan. Had to bend the tube and braze it to the cup. Never had a problem with lack of pressure.

Here are pics of the modified oil pick-up and the pan over it.

Boy, I like there idea of the support strap,I have some pickups in my stuff that are from speedway or the like, but I dont use them as the tube is very light and bends easily, a strap would fix them.

I found a pump, pick-up tube, and tin cover from IronTrapGarage that will mate up to my Mercury pan... felt lucky to find one.
