hi guys, Ive wondered for years if the 6volt am radios were different between the trucks and the cars. its obvious that the knobs were changed periodically but was the car radio the same as the truck. l have 48-50 trucks and it looks crowded in there. And what would an untested radio be worth ? thanks

Jake, there was an adapter to put the 46-8 car radio in the 48-50 trucks below the dash from Ford. Haven't seen one for awhile.

The 1951-52 truck radios were leftover 1949 Custom car radios, the cars had custom or deluxe radios. The custom had an interesting preset tone control that would be controlled by the dial with rotating backlit display. The 48-50 radios for trucks were in a different position on the dash. They were a different model number and are harder to find, much harder.

I believe Ford had an adapter plate to mount the 49 Mercury radio in the 49-50 Pickup dash.

thanks l have a few of the car radios but it doesnt look like there is enough room for the cowl vent or possibly the wiper rack to work properly

If you get a radio and have it converted to a digital one, like I did with an Aurora Conversion with full modern capabilities AM/FM, Bluetooth, USB etc they'll shorten the original chassis by a lot. They don't need a lot of room for the boards and modules that will replace the tubes. Also I had a wet shield built over my radio for the water that always seems to drip from the cowl.
