I had two of these tie down hooks on a 1940 ford pickup bed and i'm wondering if they are Ford and if i can buy ones like it anywhere.

That looks exactly like what the WWII Dodge 1/2 ton weapons carrier ( 1/2 ton pickup) had on the sides of the box. I had several years ago. Check with Midwest Military in Prior Lake MN.

Wow! I have often wondered about those. I have had them on maybe 5 fords over the years. So much nicer than the ones at the chain hardware joints. I'm all ears on the source. I think one of my tonner PUs has those down the sides, but need more,

I like them myself. mind have a curve to them but i'd like to get a set around the bed. thanks

My last 41 pickup had square holes punched into the bed rails and has those hooks held on with carriage bolts. Had to be done at the factory. I needed one and found one at a swap meet. Be aware there are different sizes of them. I still have one, but it is chrome plated and has two holes rather that three like the one pictured.

Those were pretty common aftermarket hooks that appear in photos and movies of the period and are still on some old survivors. I’d imagine the only source would be eBay or old truck parts collectors.

military trucks have them, I had a 41 6 cylinder, 42 6 cylinder and a 51 1 1/2 ton army trucks and all of them had a different variation of these hooks, probably have some hanging on the wall in the shop will check next week

I have them on the six stake pockets of '47 tonner pickup. They are two holers and the head is inside the stake pocket and the nut is on the outside. Didn't check to see if it's a carraige bolt in a square hole.
