Anyone do an AOD swap to a Y-Block

There is plenty of info on the net but it is spotty and varies from sources or people that have done it. Lot of things to consider.

When you go into the MAIN H.A.M.B SITE, you will see some icons on your upper left. The icon with the three human figures will get you into the specialty forums. Look for BRAND and then FORD SOCIAL GROUP.

All of this info is spotty and spread out. You need to start a notebook on learned factoids and discuss them here and there.

NO.1 ) - nascardave on the site can modify your gear indicator dial to reflect the new shifting pattern.

NO.2 ) Your EDSEL for the most part is a 59 FORD in different sheet metal. Mechanically, it is basically the same.

Get back with what you come across and we will work it out.

Oh, I know a Fairlane and an Edsel are the same car with a different hat and tie but I did not want to state that out loud as the Edsel mafia is always watching.

So far, I got the Bendtsens AOD adapter to attach the Trans with. Got the Lokar TV cable but cannot use their throttle cable as it will not work with a OEM gas pedal. I am hoping I can somehow use the stock gas pedal and the Lokar TV cable together. Lokar has no idea and wants me to use their "cut a slot in the floor" gas pedal.

If I can find a way to make a post to mount the stock shifter rod and link to the Lokar shifter arm and shaft on the AOD I would prefer that. I think I need to make a bracket to hold a post that I can bolt to that hole on the AOD bellhousing similar to the 2spd. but was hoping somebody already solved that puzzle.

Using firewall mounted flexible trans tube and stick and searching for an In Front of the Radiator trans cooler that I like. Using Lokar Universal cut to fit speedo cable if the stock one cannot make up the 2 or so extra inches back and as soon as I find out what the tooth count is in the tail, a drive gear to match my tires and rear gears to be closer than I am now.

I know I must have forgotten something.

Since the AOD uses a TV cable instead of the bellcrank and rod, it should be easier to fabricate. There may be others available besides Locar. I'm not sure if Bendtsens has a set up for the kit or not. Any Y-block with an AOD should use about the same set up depending on how the shift linkage is set up.

Sorry, I am not tracking.

The TV cable and gas pedal are one issue.

And the column shifter another.

The TV mounts to a bracket off the carb and it looks like that will not be in the way of the OEM throttle rod off a bracket on the intake so I might be able to use both. Fingers crossed.

The column shifter is this 2-piece set up off a post on the OEM bell housing. That's what I was hoping someone else figured out using a bracket bolted to the AOD that would allow me to have A attached to the column as OEM. B on a post to pivot on. And C attach to the shifter arm.

I should be able to take a shifter rod and shape it to match the OEM but longer to reach the shifter arm.

Judging from the photo of your linkage setup, you should be able to use what you have for the fuel and just remove all of the F/M/2 TV linkages (save). The TV cable would then be mounted alongside of it.

LOKAR has the shift lever kit and cable kit you will need. When you go to LOKAR and see the different kits, you need to also read the adjoining instructions sheets to see how to go.

Yeah, I have the Lokar AOD selector on the way. Just got the T.V. cable and an Edelbrock cable bracket and looking at the stock Intake mounted throttle set up. I am hoping I can dx the shifter rod and most of the bracket and the T.V. cable will work without either getting in the others way which would allow me to keep OEM pedal.

If not may try their spoon style pedal and cable and put it behind the OEM pedal.

You may be able to find the linkage(s) from a 59 FORD STD TRANS that would be less complicated and look somewhat cleaner.

That looks like the same bracket minus that strange flat piece on top of mine that has two holes to mount who knows what.

I was going to pretty much cutaway all the excess which will end up close to that and keep the stock pedal if it clears the T.V. cable.

I will use that diagram as a guide. Thanks.

As mentioned, all the old TV stuff is worthless so a clean set up for throttle only is the way to go. The TV cable alters the transmission fluid pressure in proportion to the throttle position. It has to be set up for the specific operating pressure of the Ford AOD transmission but that is not too difficult. Setting up the cable to pull properly may be difficult on some applications but it's doable on all with the right combination of parts whether purchased or fabricated locally. Pressure gauges can be purchased or built up to read the transmission fluid pressure for cable adjustments. There is a pressure port boss on the side of the transmission to tap into.
