New Project 1947 Ford Super Deluxe

Moondog13, Your 47 project seems right along the lines of what I'm doing on my 42 Ford coupe. Back when I bought my first 46 Ford in 1973(at age 14) the street rodder's referred to our cars as "fat Fords". 12 42-46 Fords later I disagree with that assessment. I think they are the final refinement of what Henry started with the Model A. Couple of suggestions as you get a few bucks:1) Put a Bob Drake gas tank in along with a new fuel line to the carb. 2)Send the distributor, carb and fuel pump to Charlie Schwindler in Orchard Park NY for rebuilding.3) If you stay 6 Volt put all new battery cables on. I liked the ones Third Gen had. Got to be at least 01 cables. Also have Skip Haney rebuild the coil. PM me if you have any questions on what I've done on the 42.

This is flawless advice!

Don't over-stay your welcome. Let your boss know that you will be finished in 3 months and ask if that time frame is ok. Maybe give your boss something back. Extra work around the shop, an unpaid weekend day of work. etc.
Good luck.
Phil

Hey Phil! Thank you for the suggestions, other than a timeframe I think I'm doing alright. I've been doing stuff like that for the past two years here. I come in on weekends to cut the grass, clean the driveway (it floods and fills up with neighboring garbage and rocks), I pack items for his wife that she sells (she does estate sales and I managed a UPS Store for 6 years), etc. Even fixed the brakes on his boat trailer after work one day. :D

Moondog,
Sounds like your doing well in your shop. Just keep hitting at it, make a good plan, try to avoid taking on too much. This can happen easily. I have had things apart for years!
Brakes, Engine transmision, Electrical, Fuel systems. Your doing fine! Good luck with your project!
We will need some more pictures. By the way the body work eats up a lot of time on something like this. I see you have a piece cut out for repair.
Regards,
Chris

Wise Birds know Ford's out Front in 1947!

We had a BBQ place down the road from us all their walls were decorated with those kinds of posters. Too bad, they dumped all that when they went out of business.

Me myself I like 12 volts. Also,, if ever you need a hot shot its better to not have to mix voltage quantities

Thanks Chris! Body work eats up soooo much time. I have that one panel nearly done at this point which is great. I'm buttoning up the areas of the trunk that sit right over the gas tank. I don't want to have to weld over it once it's in and full of fuel, that just makes me nervous.

I shouuuuld fix the passenger rear fender before it hits the road too, it's hanging on a thread. Let's see how that goes though, I may just leave it to the end and just knock out all the mechanical stuff first.

Cheers!
Sergio

Thank you A Bones! I was actually going to ask for his info as I noticed he was banned here.

I decided to go 12 volt, the hot shot is another great reason to do so.

I may have enough of an old rear fender you could use as patch panels till I get into the pile .
Send me a pic of the fender . I have resistance spot welders to install if you can get the fender here

I'm jumping in pretty late here, but I just wanted to ask how is the 1947 project going? I found this thread fascinating as I also have a 47 ford. I'm rooting for you and wish you the best. Brian.
