New Project 1947 Ford Super Deluxe

Bought this little fella about 8 months ago and I wasn't too sure what to do with it. I need a new daily as my wife and I share a car and she starts school next year so I figured why the hell not? Here goes nothing! I'm giving myself 3 months to get it roadworthy.

Plans are to fix the trunk area first so that I can mount the new gas tank, 12 volt conversion and brakes.

Looking for a new-to-me tailpan and rear pass fender if anyone in Florida has something. :D

Nice looking two door. Will give you lots of room. That rust makes me cringe!
3 months to launch. Seems optimistic.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Moondog,
Looks like a good project car to me. You probably have some work there in the rocker areas. Just keep hitting at it. Seems doable from the pictures.
Nice shop too!
Regards,
Chris

Yeah, it won't be perfect, just running, driving and stopping. I can get to the rest of it later on. :)

Hey Chris! Yeah the rockers are rough! They'll be the first thing I get to once it's back on the road. It's not toooo rough, just rough enough. :p

The shop is my job's warehouse. The owner is nice enough to let me keep it here and work on it before we open and after hours.

Hi, Moondog,
If it were mine, the first thing I'd tackle is the drivetrain to make it roadworthy and reliable..particularly since you want to make it a daily driver for work etc.

Engine, transmission, brakes, tires, cooling, all need to be reliable. Changing to 12 volts over a reliable original 6 volt electrical system won't gain you much. That can come later, if you still feel a need to do it. JMO.

Best of luck...as you can see, I'm a fan of '47's.

I’ve been debating the conversion to 12 volt for a bit to be honest.

My main concerns are cost and safety. I live in Miami, this city is notorious for its bad drivers, I see people flying down the highway staring at their phones daily. Are my taillights/brake lights going to be bright enough with the 6 volts?

The other thing is that I’ve never had luck with generators. If this generator goes out I know it’ll run at least 150 bucks to rebuild. I have a brand new 90 amp alternator sitting here. The other is if I get it going on the 6 volt and I decide to go 12 in the end I’m out a new 6 volt battery and whatever else I purchased to get the 6 volt system up to snuff again.

I can’t decide! Help! Hahah

This is why I started on the fuel system. I have a new tank but I don’t want to install it without patching up the trunk first. I can chew 6 vs 12 over while I work away. 😁

I'd have fun with this one and keep the investment at a minimum. These cars, when pristine, have little value. It's easy to get upside down in these.
Just enjoy. It's actually pretty neat the way it is.

That’s kind of the plan, I remember when these were a whole lot more expensive and I didn’t think I’d ever get to own one. It does have quite a bit of rust for me to repair and I would eventually like to get the upholstery done as the original stuff is pretty stinky and I know the boss lady won’t be riding in it anytime soon if it stays that way. 😆

Thanks Kube!

Des it currently run ?
I’ve got a few tudors and many parts . Not sure about rear fenders . Many engines ( running ) transmissions, rears , generators, etc . Right off the turnpike, lake worth exit . I will check but itll take some time .

Aweeesome! Thank you so much! It runs if you pour gas down the carb. I bought it with no gas tank, I'm assuming it was rotted and thrown out at some point. I'll be hitting you up as I get her going. If you could check for a tailpan that would be amazing as I can't even make sense of how it all goes together, that's how rotten out it is.

Thank you again!

"Are my taillights/brake lights going to be bright enough with the 6 volts?"

Use an alternator and buy some LED taillight bulbs. Sacramento Vintage Ford has some super bright incandescents, but I recommend LEDs.

Just a little personal advice. I have been on both sides of a "free" shop arrangement, and both have ended badly. Use caution and don't let this jeopardize your employment.
Good luck.

Thanks Phil, that’s been at the back of my head too. It’s a small company, there’s only 4 of us and that includes the owner. He’s a super great guy but either way I’m making myself as invisible as possible. So far I’ve only worked on it in the morning, I come in around 5:30-6 and work until about 7:45 (we open at 8) I clean everything up and store my tools in the car so as to not make a mess. No one else comes in until 10 or so. Since you’ve been here, any tips?
