Radiator baffle

I made one out of a tin can top once for use in a '29. A real PIA to cut, form, fold and snake it in the neck. It was better then nothing I guess. Your best bet would
be to find a good radiator man/shop (a real rareity these days!!) and have one put in right.

Rat Fink,
Just drop a large head nail into overflow tube and it will act as a baffle to prevent coolant loss. It will not pressurize the system, as the nail just sits there and vibrates a little dance. Trust me on this, "THE ASSISTANT GURU OF STUFF"

What is the baffle for?

To prevent the coolant that the water pump has forcibly shot up the radiator hose from hitting the top of the radiator cap or otherwise splashing around and getting into the overflow tube where it will be lost.

IF you don't have a thermostat, I'd install that first and see if that doesn't stop your coolant loss. My 28 has the baffle and original radiator, but the thermostat stopped my loss of 2 quarts every 50 mile trip.

Something that works well is to cut a piece of regular chrome plated brass kitchen sink drain pipe long enough that it will sit on the tubes and just clear the under side of the cap. Then drill a hole for the overflow tube to stick into the pipe and stand the pipe up in the opening. The water coming up from the water pump will hit the side of the pipe and be deflected around the pipe.
