Universal Brand Tires

Since the last century, I have been using Universal tires on my Model A's. All of a sudden, Universal is gone, sold-out to another company. In August I ordered 2 Universal tires from Mac's, but as of today I have no clue as to when I will get them. I talked to Customer Service at Eckler's, and they say the manufacturer is not providing an availability date.

Who manufactures Universal tires?

checked a couple of days ago and Jegs has them in stock.

IF you can get them from Jeg's they will probably cost you less than MAC's, free shipping. But Jeg's website sez they will ship in November so no, they don't have them in stock.

Bob,
We put four new Universal tires on our '30 coupe this spring. Ours are made in Vietnam. That being said they are very smooth riding compared to the Allstates and show no sign of premature wear. Dale

Who manufactures Universals? The Vietnamese. I bought a set from Coker about 6 months ago at the Charlotte Auto Fair. They had a bunch on hand in their big rig. Im very happy with them.

Y-Blockhead FYI, 3 weeks ago I ordered and received within 4 days 4 American Classic US made radials from Snyder's. I mounted them and now enjoying the improved ride. Driving around curves, hitting road bumps, crossing manhole covers, and tracking have all been noticeably changed when compared to the performance of my previous bias ply tires.

Hah, that's what I get for being cheap. I was trying to avoid the shipping charges (~$200.00). Summitt Racing ships for free.

Even Coker shows them out of stock tho. If I order 5, Coker will gladly "backorder the remaining 5".

My friend just bought a set and received them within a couple of weeks at most. $150 but don’t know about shipping. He got them from Bert’s I believe.

I am wondering if it would be less expensive, including shipping, to get them direct from the manufacturer in Vietnam? Or if it is even possible, given dealers who retail them.

they would never sell to you direct.

However, if you could make it through the proper channels, you might be able to order a gross or such. Doubt it would be worth your time.

The manufacturer may not own the molds and is just making them on contract. It happens a lot with low run product numbers. You pay the manufacturer to produce the tooling and parts. You own the tooling since it wasn't a big enough job to amortize the tooling over hundreds of thousands of parts.
