1961 Galaxie radiator support vs 1962

The 1960-64 MPC FINAL ISSUE shows both as the same -
What issue catalog are you using? The 62 may have superseded the 61 at some point.

A big Thank you for your response. I have the Chiltons 1962 Flat rate and parts manual. That's great news. Me and my son bought a 61 in California and it has a 62 front clip on it. It has a 61 front clip that comes with it but transporting the clip with the car has become a problem. I never thought about the numbers getting superseded, as it shows a C1AB-16138-C for the 61 core support and a C2AB-16138-A for the 62. We know the front fenders on the 62 clip has holes drilled at the top we will need to weld shut also Different top fender ornaments, grille, headlight doors, eyebrow trims along with hood letters. The flat rate manual calls for a different part numbers for the hood latch assembly, headlight assemblies, and front valance, and hood moulding, which I wonder now might be the same just superseded also? Why would anyone hang a 62 front clip on a 61 I wonder?
Is the 61 a STARLINER? If so, THE RULES of THE FORD UNIVERSE states it has to have a 61 clip ...
Anywho ...
The HDL ASSY and DOORS are different as are the grill center support, latch, and the 62 hood has a FORD CREST EMBLEM instead of letters. Gravel shield is the same.
What, are you bringing it back on a car trailer? I wouldn't give that 61 clip up for no reason.

... pondering ...I wonder if a 62 clip was hung if the owner was trying to emulate a 1962 STARLINER, a car FORD didn't build and it cost them on the high banks.

LOL (although the 65 trunk lid question you answered for me the deal has not come thru yet) We bought a 61 Sunliner that had been wrecked and side swiped on the right side thus the 62 clip installed including hood. So we can use the 62 hood if we weld the holes for the hood emblem and drill holes for the ford letters and 61 hood latch (hood side)should bolt up ok? Is the hood lip trim different? I assumed we could leave the 62 fenders if we weld the 62 holes shut and drill holes for the 61 trim? Also it seems there is a bracket for the headlight buckets that is also different? No we are going to have it hauled to Va. You certainly are a life saver! Thanks!

The 61 and 62 hood are the same service part. Usually they came through un-drilled and the body man would have to drill for whatever trim level mldgs (I don't need to tell you that). The aprons are the same. The HDL ASSY's are different. The front hood lip mldg is different.
How much does the transporter want to haul the 61 clip also? I assume the right fender is damaged? How far back did the hit go?

Absolutely on the MECUM BOYS! WOW the shipping quotes makes my head swim. I have not questioned anyone yet on adding the front clip to the load or if its possible. The org. front clip is long gone. Complete 62 clip was installed years. It is a complete 61 with the car less hood. Owner was going to disassemble front clip and try to pack safely in the trunk. Spoke to owner yesterday and now he said looks like a big job to tare apart (rusty bolts) and he is sure it all won't fit in the trunk. I told him yesterday at least we needed the grille, headlight buckets and bezels, fender top ornaments, eyebrows, side trim (only right side there, and (radiator support and valance which you have helped and said they are the same. Will be happy when its safely in Va with enough parts to make it a true 61 again. You certainly have been a big big help in worst case where we have it to only bring parts that have to come off of the 61 clip (still hope we can bring the whole clip) Thanks!

Best we can tell it was a factory 390 hp car (Z engine code although I know that doesn't prove hp)) 3 speed o/d trans but still remains to be seen 100% but shows it was. Has factory cast iron headers, hp fuel filter, chrome thunderbird valve covers, front brake line under radiator, thicker clutch pedal pad, 15"wheels and big brakes and extra rear leaf spring ply. It now has a 2 brl intake and carb on it. So we will see. I will be glad to let the board know the progress. Thanks again for you help!

just a side note on installing hood emblems & letters. I believe that water migrates past the emblem rubber and letter holes and settles in the front of the hood between the inner and outer layers. That is why a lot of the early '60's hoods rusted out. I used 3M emblem tape to eliminate any chance of water seepage.

You may have stumbled across an actual period (1960-64) HP car. The Z-CODE was showing for both the 300HP and the 385/401HP 390. It may also have the 390PI (CODE P) engine.
15" wheels (if they are original KH) and the brake line routing shows possible HP car.
Just how lucky are you? Make sure you go to church on SUN and BIBLE CLASS.
It has to have the 61 clip.

Kultulz I had verified about 75% of the things before buying. The few things are not 100% yet as we have not verified what engine is in it now, and if they are KH wheels. I appreciate all help given. My son has decided to sell everything (including his 69 Mark III) and put all efforts into this car to make a nice one.
I will certainly keep everyone updated.

Well the Sunliner is in Va safely! Huray! We got it in my sons shop so we could look at it a little. So we are 100% sure it was a high po car. It has the brake line under the radiator, thick clutch pedal pad, extra rear leaf spring, cast iron headers, hi po fuel filter, and 3 of the org hi po wheels. The engine block is a 63 so the org block is not in it, and now has a 2 brl intake & carb. Has C1AE-6090-A casted heads which at this point am not sure if they could be the org heads or not. We are tickled with the car. Thanks for all the help!

Are you planning on a dedicated resto or just a driver?
If you put the car on the forensics table, you need to catalog all of the take-off parts (say exh manifolds, etc.), engine specifically.
The 1963 POLICE had solid lifters but did not use the earlier 390HP block.
As you go, try and document here and I will try to chase info for you.
When looking for another wheel, the KH HP was 15 x 5.5" wide for 1961-64.
What trans is in it now?

It still has the factory 3 speed overdrive transmission. He is going to keep it as close to stock as possible (and affordable) as possible. At this point he said he is not going to cut the floor for a 4 speed and stay with the 3 speed of course that being no 4 speed was available when it was built. The 61 390 HP was available with a W/4/S.
When ordered it was thrown in the trunk for dealer install. Same with 401HP 3 x 2's.
Have you determined a build date yet?
This appears to be correct - (Brite Parts Were Available)
CORRECTION - The OIL FILLER CAP does not appear to be year correct.
