The engine oil level is a factor in how much oil is expelled out the breather, I got to watch the results of the oil level being a little above the top of the “F” on my Smiths compressor, it was going to work for 8 hours that day.
It proceeded to spit oil droplets rapidly in the beginning, then it slowed, by lunch time no obvious oil was coming out, checking the oil level it was slightly below the bottom of the “F” and by the end of the day the oil level was still near the F
This engine was built specifically for my Smiths compressor using all used parts, the center pistons I put in the other way because the load is on the compression stroke, it was bored .027 oversized to fit the used pistons and rings, hand scraped in a .009 undersize crankshaft into worn .020 undersize babbitt,All the exterior parts cosmetically unfit for restoration .
The model A engine is quite capable of expelling excess liquid
