Having trouble locating the VIN on my 1947 car. Is it supposed to be on the top of frame near battery? Is there another one located elsewhere?
Thanks,
Phil:confused:

Top of frame near the steering box or further up near the front cross member. On the transmission(if orig to the car) if you want to pull the floor boards

Check out the information on Mac Van Pelt's website for information on serial numbers, http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm.

My car is a 1937 and it has the motor number in four locations, one on the transmission housing and the other three on the frame. Only one of the frame locations is visible without removing the body from the frame. On my 1937 frame the front motor number (aka VIN or serial number) location is on top the left frame rail by where the steering box bracket is riveted to the frame.

This number is from a 1940 Ford at front crossmember, but yours should be similar area.

I have and have had numerous 47 ford trucks. They have all been V8 trucks and the vin is usually at the steering box location or a bit further back. I just installed an H six in one and had no alternative but to cover the vin# with the needed driver side battery box. If you don't see the vin # where we all stated, perhaps a six cyl car had it stamped on the opposite side?
