40 each
I have several of these nos Ford with the red latex gasket (which should be replaced as they invariably decompose). I have 10 or so. $40 each. To be sure, these are squarish in shape with four ears and have a 78 part number. I believe these appropriate for V8s between the end of exposed radiators to the onset of pressure caps. Paypal or any good money accepted. I will pay the postage.
PS the part number referred to is hard to read on decomposing Ford tags, in other words, there is no number to make these specific to 1937 on the cap itself. prs518@live.com

36 is the only yr that had a bail on them.Possibly 35 also. 37 up were square but with out the wire bail. OMO. ken ct.

The bailed radiator caps were used in both 1935 and 1936.
Perhaps the part number starts with a "48" instead of a "78", on these hard to read labels.
They are hard to find, never reproduced and should easily be worth the $40.00, he is asking.
MIKE :)

Mike, Didn't some of these caps with bail have steel rivets that might be correct for one year while some had a brass rivet that was correct for another year? Seems like I recall the judges using a magnet to check these caps at shows. If they are the real deal, $40 postage paid is a good price.

Now thats getting pretty picky unii.ken ct.He says none have the bail so there not right for a 35 or 36. With out the bail their usually in the junk boxes for $1 to $5 boxes.Ive seen dozens of the like that. I dont even bother buying them.ken ct.

The heading of his post says, "with bail".

JOHN .............
I've always heard that the brass rivets were correct. I do not know of steel rivets in the bailed caps. It very well could be. Perhaps one of the '35-'36 experts will fill us in.
MIKE :)

Steel rivets were Early 1935 and brass were mid year 35 to the end of 36.... PS i need a steel riveted one

Mike, thanks for your reply. I'll do a little research on this.

Ken, not trying to be picky. Just asked a question based on something I read or heard.

Perry, I sent you a PM.

PS........Found the info that I was asking about on these caps in the EFV8C/A 1935-36 Ford Book on pg. 108.

"The radiator cap for the '35-'36 radiator was a bail type cadmium plated steel cap. This cap had a steel rivet in the center. In approximately April/May of '36, this steel rivet, which connected the steel cap and locking cup was changed to brass to reduce corrosion. The cap remained unchanged throughout the '36 model year"

I know they are hard to find so its hard to believe someone has 10 of them with the bail.Maybe if he showed pics of them it would be believible. OMO ken ct.Ive come across maybe 3-4 of them in 25 yrs of vending?? ken ct.

Ken, FYI, based on the EFV8C/A '37 and '38-'39 Books, the '37-'39 caps are not square. They are round with two nibs for grabbing and turning.

John FYI not everything in efv8 c/a books is correct. Even the "GREEN BIBLE" has mistakes in it written by FMC.OMO. ken ct.

Will true there are mistakes in the 'green bible' and the Club books in many instances, including mine, in this case the book is correct. It is a round cadmium-plated steel cap with two ears opposite one another and a brass bell protruding downward on the bottom. This has been confirmed by Ford's original engineering drawings for the 78-prefix radiator cap.

These are even harder to find than the '35 bail cap with a steel rivet.

Dave

Perry, I sent you a PM message on 5/29 and an email message on 5/20 asking you for your address so I could send you payment for one of these caps but have not received a response from you. I am definitely interested in buying one of these caps.
