Don, thanks for the reply. I noticed on the bottom of the trans. there is an embossed area where you would expect to see an oil drain plug; did some of these transmissions actually have an oil drain plug?

My toploader has a drain plug
 
Some had drain plugs, some didnt. If a plug and the cost to drill and tap the hole cost a dime, and they made a million of them, the stock holders were happy that year.
