Off topic but I'm curious

I'd previously PM'd other members but no one knew. I'm watching the latest Mecum auction on Motor trend channel and at the end of the stage as the cars are about to roll off they pause the camera for a moment. In the background on stage is a high end prewar roadster. It is on every auction broadcast. Anyone know what it is? I couldn't find any info on the internet. I snapped a pic off the TV if it helps.

I'm trying to get a good shot of the grill. They never really show it clearly but I can see it's definitely not Packard.

Similar but not sure. Pete, your pictured car appears chopped and the windshield is laid back compared to the Mecum stage car. Also, from what little they show on TV there are panels, not louvers on the hood. Proportions are very similar though.

Here's a pic of a 1931 Chrysler Imperial Sport that is similar.

Maybe Pete can blow it up...

In looking at '31 and '32 Chryslers they are very similar and custom bodied but I think Pete nailed it. I see there are louvered hoods and panel hoods shown as well as split windshields and single pane. Also the grills seem to be either vertical bars or a woven mesh. I believe the Mecum stage car is woven mesh. Nicely styled car. I can't imagine who could have afforded one in the early '30's and the nerve to drive it in public during the great depression. Anyone have a contact at Mecum to solve the puzzle? They are certainly out of my humble league. LOL!

This 1932 Buick is also similar, the painted wheels make it look different...

Kube has an early Buick. I don't recall which thread he started about it but it's a beautiful car with a very inviting rear seat. Perhaps he'll chime in. BTW Lanny, thanks for initially suggesting the Chrysler.

Tom, here is a 1931 Marmon Sixteen Convertible Coupe.
This is the same model as the Black one shown at Mecum auction,
except for the color and wire wheels.

This one I found was at the Hershey auction, sold for about $513,000

I'd go with the Marmon. The shape of the front fenders don't fit the Lincoln and the grill top looks to be angled like the Marmon rather than the more rounded top for the Buick. I do like that red Buick though. GM made some pretty cars for 32 , the Chevy Confederate was one of the best looking Chevs made pre war in my view .

They finally featured it. It is a 1931 Marmon and is part of the Greg Dawson Marmon 16 collection. They are all going to be auctioned August 18th-20th at Mecum auctions in Monterey. There is a YouTube video that talks about them but I don't know how to provide the link.
