Looking to replace the wires and coil on the 53 Merc 255 cu. V8. I like the color of the ones on the car now (orange/red?) Want to replace the coil as well so any info on where to find these two items and specs, would help.

Napa Auto Parts would have the coil and wires, but I doubt they would orange colored wires. For colored wires you probably have to go to places like Summit or Jegs, etc.

And blue is the best color for your coil if you are 12 v. Bosch Blue super coil. You won't be sorry.....

bigd1101: I use these TAYLOR 8mm wires on my 53 8BA with electronic ignition. They are 20 years old and still working fine. System is 12V. Using Pertronix ignition with matching Pertronix coil. As was said: Don't use copper core wires.

Be sure to buy the little tools for cutting and crimping the wires to the length you desire.
Well worth the $$$. I used this crimper.https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...MI1YHdrvnh-AIVZT2tBh2BGQUZEAQYAiABEgL7i_D_BwE
Also consider plastic wire separaters.

These wires are 8mm dia., not 7mm, so make sure they will fit your OEM wire looms. I modified my OEM looms to fit and reroute the wires. Don't crimp the ends until AFTER you have fed the wires thru the looms. Install the longest wires first to avoid "short cut" mistakes.
Hope this helps.
