Vintage garage 12v kit.

Most of those pre-packaged conversion kits include pricey parts you don't actually need.

Here's a link written for converting '55 T-Birds. It's my favorite, just ignore the 'T-Bird only' items.

Are you wanting to add several 12v accessories, or is there a problem with the car? Hard starting?

I could have gotten. Higher amp 6v alternator for brighter lights but this thing needs some faster cranking. New battery and wires are still not to my liking. It starts but just not very fast. Plus I’d like to put a radio in the glove box and electric fan just in case we get into traffic. Thanks for the link.

A slow starter can often be traced to battery & starter cables that are too small or poor main cable connections, all six of them. Power to and from the starter is only as good as the weakest link in the whole circuit. Paint or even a small amount of corrosion can limit the available current to the starter. The terminals & ground cable from the engine to the battery can be easily forgotten.

I suspect 6v cooling fans are available, not sure about music options. Some folks use stand-alone wireless / bluetooth systems.

Has anyone installed the 12 volt kit from
Vintage auto garage in their 54 ford/merc.
You should also read this as it goes into more details. https://darksidersrealm.forumotion....lt-positive-ground-to-12-volt-negative-ground This wiring harness is less pricey than some others but includes some extra circuits that you wanted and part you wil need and will also give you safety flashers. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223916936315?hash=item34227d4c7b:g:2t0AAOSw49lhq5Y2

You're going to have to bite the bullet and go with an ALT UPGRADE. A GEN does not charge @ idle and/or slow speed. It will be drawing off the battery only.

I bought the vintage kit. In my eyes it was worth it. Got a 12v power gen and all the fixings. Getting rid of the points and new plug wires too.

If you don't mind, could you share your upgrade(s) here on this thread as you go?

What PN POWER-GEN did you purchase?

A GEN would never supported accessories such as hot ignition, fans and possibly a fuel pump. You would have to carry a GOLD AAA CARD.

I had only one 6V car, it being a 55 BIRD. At first I thought I would enjoy it but the usual problems (incl 6V) soon soured my taste for the car. I sold it and bought a 64 FALCON SPRINT and all was well.

This was in the MUSCLE CAR ERA and it just didn't belong (IMO).

Installed everything from the kit. Even got a new starter that was 12 volt while I was at it. Cars starts great. Headlights and all are perfect.
