Wow! $35 for a leather strap?

On my trunk, which is in excellent condition, one of the black straps is beginning to crack at the hole that I normally fasten to. Other than that the strap is in perfect condition and looks new. Sooner or later it is going to split. Just priced one and it is thirty-five bucks! A 72 inch strap basic leather. Doesn't seem right. Anybody found a reasonable supply of these?

Have you looked at belts at Western Stores, or even places like Walmart or Target? (The last two options will be pretty doubtful.)

Mac's Sells Leather Hood Straps for $125 a pair.

HotRod Leather is pretty high also

If you think about it, a real leather belt at the store now is surely going to be more than $25.

Maybe $35 isn't that bad...

Is there a harness or shoe repair shop in your area? They should have it cheaper. Mexico has it cheaper, but the Mexican leather I bought was not good quality.

I see you are in California. Not sure how far you are from Knott's berry farm, but I was there last year and there is a vendor there that does custom leather work of all kinds. He made a nice personalized dog collar for my hound at a very reasonable price.

What is your hourly rate, and what do you produce in an hour?

$35.00 for a strap? you are lucky you don't need saddle straps at $50.00 for 17'' [deluxe phaeton] I bought a cheap strap at Rhinebeck this year to hold up my pants $25.00 and it was nothing fancy. But made here in the ~ u.s.a. ~!!!!!!!!!!!! Model A Man is right ---go to a tack shop for horses

And there you go!

See just by asking I saved twenty bucks on a pair, same pair another vendor charges ten bucks more for each strap. That's beer money!

Thanks!

Man, you want cheap beer,too?

For you beer men in the Northeast-try Yards All out of Philadelphia-a very nice Microbrew-in the low 30's for a case-better buy 4 of those belts so you can save enough for real beer..:)

Just ran into the same problem... $35 for a strap? That's crazy. Snyder's is no longer significantly cheaper.

Bert' A parts has them cheaper as well as Varco at last check. Usually one needs the 72" length to go all around a trunk (and rack) if attached thru the slots in some of the A racks. If you can live with 60", try Antique Hardware and More in Pa. They only have 60" length, at a reasonable price..

I had Tandy Leather in Elgin, Il duplicate one of my trunk straps. I think they had scraps from other jobs that they used so it was cheap.... I believe they have facilities all over the US.. $12.00 for 72 inch leather strap as an example.

I also heard Tom Brady could make you one out of old deflated pig skins...
