Intermittent idle surging issues

Yes that's what I mean. Also, when you put a new needle in I would up your pressure to 2.5 psi. I prefer the old steel tipped needles as opposed to the rubber tips for just this reason, especially if you are using ethanol gas.

Yeah we don't really have access to ethanol free but a station here and there so it's 10-15 ethanol basically everywhere. I've never had issues with other rebuilds on other vehicles but this kit is from Shoebox central and I don't have experience with their products. The fuel would make sense since neither the accel pump or this surge were an issue for the first few hundred miles and they both sort of started at the same time.

I've seen a lot of guys running the insulated carb spacers but I'm not sure what the symptom of partially vapor locked bowl is. I've had carbs vapor lock on certain rides but this is an interesting thought with the cast iron intake and carb base.

Could you expound on this? The only suggestions I've discounted are ones where my fuel pressure was mis read as 5 psi.

I think what's going on is the power valve gasket is beginning to fail...try to recall if
the gasket you used had a triangular hole and was maybe .09 thick and somewhat soft.
This type will hold for awhile but soaks up fuel and acts like a wet sponge. Errant fuel
is drawn into the vac chamber and gobbled up as you drive at speed. At idle far less
demand plus max vac pulling errant fuel thru the vac port in the base. Check the
base to bowl gasket at the rear of the carb...if it is wet that is the tell tale.

Float setting 1.350 with no gasket.

Firstly to clear this up the fuel pressure is at .5 psi not 5 psi. Turning the pressure up to 2 and down to 0 had no effect on the surging.
I was facing up on the hill. Float was not saved in anyway when I tore the carb apart. I'm worried a out the quality of the material in the kit. The accel.pump has already started to fail so now I'm concerned it's something else in the kit such as the float needle.

Sorry I misread your 0.5 as 5. So, maybe just set pressure at 2.5.

A 94 float that is set too high or not sealing tightly will get over-rich or flood worse when stopped facing uphill. It could be as simple as a bit of debris or varnish stuck to the float needle. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and blast the inlet to the carb with some carburetor cleaner.

If that does not fix it, maybe replace float valve, and set float a bit lower.

The float valve is new but it's the rubber tipped type so that has me a bit worried. The entire fuel system is brand new from tank to carb and the the entire car was taken apart and ultrasonic cleaned all there shouldn't be much to get into the needle but rather than Blasing the in there I'm going to pop it apart and see what I can see and re check the height.

This sounds pretty feasible, I plan to pull the carb off here next week maybe and see what I can find.

Drove 60 miles today with no idle surge at all. Still planning on pulling it apart next week or so. Haven't had much time.

To update everyone I never did resolve this issue. I attempted to use the old power vallve parts as well as tinkering with various settings and nothing resolved the problem. Only does it once it has had time to really warm up so I'm still stock on it being something with heat.
