59A heads on 8BA help

So I went to install my 59A heads onto my 8BA today and noticed the valve pocket in the 59A head is shaped completely different from the 8BA head. Also the piston area on the 59A head is much smaller than the piston area on the 8BA head. My question is will this affect my install, can i run these heads? For some reason it won't let me upload photos ill try in the comments. Thanks Chris

both sets of heads are canadian.

If the piston dome is much smaller, it would indicate the head have had an amount planed off of them. When dealing with fitting heads to these engines, one must check clearances of valves and piston crowns to heads.

Yes, they have been planed somewhat- eh? You'll probably have piston to head contact...you NEED to check....sit [do not bolt down!!] the heads onto the engine and turn engine over at least two revolutions, without head gaskets in place You'll probably find the heads get lifted as each piston reaches TDC. There are numerous posts on here about using tinfoil balls or plastercine to indicate clearances.

Nova, The reason I say to do your INITIAL check without head gaskets in place is because, if you have no contact with that configuration, then, once gaskets are added into the combination, you'll have another 50 odd thou clearance.

simple tip when checking valve clearances ; Find 3 longer studs and fit heads and place some light springs on the studs and seat down leaving some wiggle room with the spring tension this will allow the head to move so you don't damage anything if you dont have enough room
