I love seeing this type of video.

It makes you want to go find an old engine, just to make it run again! Thanks again for posting the video.

Thats about where I was coming up on 7 years ago. I got lucky with the 52. Now if I could just get that 49 to break loose but no luck so far.

Enjoyable videos. Getting the job done after 55 years by being slow an methodical. It is so exciting bringing an old engine to life. Good luck and enjoy your 54 flathead.

RalphG trying to break loose the engine in his 1949 Ford Pick-up.

I'm not usually the correct police (more often their target) but I'll just point out that this is a Mercury pickup, not a Ford. Although mechanically and body panels are identical it is still identified as Mercury. If the resolution was better on the photo you could read the little "M68" badge in front of the driver's door. A Ford would be an F68. The number refers to the gross vehicle weight rating of 6800 pounds. A pretty simple and useful system once you understand it.

I bought an engine some years ago that came from a F series truck that had a valve pierce the top of the tappet due to being stuck so hard. The cam ended up busted in three pieces. The farmer that owned it tried to pull it with his tractor to break the engine loose. It took a while to get the valves and cam out. The pistons were stuck but not as bad as the valves. It ended up being a good block but it was a b!tch to get it apart.

I can't find any information to confirm whether Meteor had ball joint front suspension for 54. Looked through lots of ads but all they mention is "improved wonder ride" which I suppose could be a reference to ball joint front suspension.

Note the position of the front wheel is not central to the cut-out on the Australian 1954 Fords, as they were built on the 52-53 Chassis with the 115" Wheel Base while the USA Built models were on a new 115.5" WB Chassis. The same goes for the Canadian 1954 Fords and Meteors. The front Fenders were redesigned in 1954 by Ford USA. As such, the wheel cut-outs were slightly ahead of the 52-53 Fenders. Ford of Canada used these Fenders on their carry-over 115" Chassis. That is why when you look closely on a Canadian 1954 Ford and Meteor, you can see that the wheel is not exactly central with the cut-out. Check the above picture. Mercman <><

I guess a half inch difference would be hard to notice. As far as my information goes the Canadian built Fords and Meteors all had the 115 inch wheelbase from 52 through 54. Mercs and Monarchs were 118 inch.
