Temp sensor port thread chaser

The port in the head is NPT.National Pipe Taper.Brian was correct.

Brian says the port thread is parallel, You say the port thread is tapered and then you say Brian is correct. How can that be?
I agree that the port is 3/8 NPT threads.

so next question on engine ports, on each side of the block behind water pumps there are threaded ports for either threaded plug (like on my other bare block) or drain pet ***** for the water jackets. Should I plug them or use pet *****? what size are those threads normally?

So would either of these ports be in the direct path of water returning from the rad, and make a good place for an electric fan temp sensor?

cheers

I would think so since that's where Ford originally had the sensor. Its in the path returning to the radiator(not from). If a thermostat is used its at the top of the outlet of the head.

I was actually asking about the ports behind the water pumps, near the bottom of the block that he mentioned, I hadn't noticed them before so I will have to have a close look when I get back to the shop.

Thanks!

The lower 1/4 NPT ports are a great place for a water petcock . . . makes draining each side of the block easy. If you are using a temperature sensor to drive a fan relay, then it should be at the TOP of the head - where it is the hottest.
