Mismatched heads

My late V8 (stock) has 2 different heads on it....one is 8ba and the other is 8rt. Is this a problem? Are the combustion chambers the same?
Are any other iron heads better than these, like Merc heads?
I currently have the heads off, and they look pretty similar....but can put a matched set on if needed. Thanks:)

8ba, 8rt and EAC are listed as having the same comp. ratio. The 8cm Merc. heads are worse. As stated the EAB heads are best.

I believe Barry-ct has it correct. The 8RT head castings were manufactured as a replacement for the 8BA heads after production stoped on those castings. Most vehicles still in service at the time were trucks. I've run across several brand new in the box 8RT heads.

8RT, 8CM and EAC are low compression as compaired to the EAB. For best results have a set of EAB heads milled for .050" piston clearance. Convert a SBC distributor for use and have a great running engine.

Do as (OL,Ron) said and also use a Merc intake with the 4 bolt carb flange, hog the hole out about 1/8in. and use a 283 Chevy Rodchester carb. The carb flows about 100cfm more air than the Ford carb. Walt

I'm learning about these heads as well, thanks for posting.

I know next to nothing about flatheads but picked up a pair - no, 2 different - heads, one is 8RT and a EAB, at a swap meet last week. No idea if they're any good but for $8 for both, I figured they're worth that for scrap.

I have a complete but yet-to-be-restored '47 Fordor SuperDeluxe sitting in the polebarn and am starting to pick up a few odds & ends for it, hoping someday to get to it and put it back on the road. Haven't looked at it in awhile but I think the heads are 59AB, does that sound right for a '47? (I'm more into Yblocks but would love to get this old flathead going again - never had one before).

Great minds think alike, LOL! I'm running a rochester carb and a Bubba's chevy distributor. Motor is in my 52 F-1 and runs real nice with that combo.....
Will be looking for some EAB heads now! Thanks to all...

Do you have a picture of a "283 Chevy Rodchester carb"? That way I will know what to look for.

The old Rochester 2GC was used for a long time on 2 barrel GM applications. They are still pretty easy to find and parts are still out there for them. It seems like Ive seen some set up specs for a 2GC on a flathead application over on the HAMB at one time or another.

Cruzer, here you go....there were a million versions of this carb. Look for the early style with the small base. Early to mid 60's I think....
