differances in valve cover and return tube

I'm wondering if there's an advantage in using the later valve cover and tube with the return higher in the cover? More oil in the cover for better lube?
 
My engine is a Feb. 29, I have a couple of other covers (year unknown) that the return is higher, so they must be from a 28 or very early 29. I was cleaning up some parts for a rebuild and noticed this difference. Also there's a little difference in the timing cover, seems to be the location of the generator mount.

Feb. 1929 should have the HIGH pipe. Someone must have switched the cover to the later lower pipe.
