Radiator hose has a small leak

Well I figured it was only a matter of time before one of my hoses sprung a leak. Had them for about 10 years now. Its a small hole, starting to leak a bit. As you can see in my pictures I have a chrome tube connecting the two two hoses. Have not found anyone who makes just the hose part, thinking about just cutting a solid hose to fit but not sure how it will look. Suggestions please. Thanks PS What would be the inside diameter of the hose too?

Tom, there is a hose made that fits the earlier cars with the later engine. The Gates number is 21253 and NAPA number is 7964. That way you have solid hose without having to put pipe or anything in the middle. Check it out. Buy one and if it doesn't fit you can always take it back. Hope this helps.

and if he wanted to cut the center out, he would have two ends to use with his center pipe.....yeah, i know it's obvious...lol....Mike

would that hose fit a '36 fitted with an 8BA engine?
that's what I'm looking for

When I have needed a hose I take the sample to the parts store and they let me roam their hose wall. I have always been able to find a hose that could be cut to my needed shape.

Unfortunately I don't have a hose that fits an 8BA in a '36. The upper and lower hose IDs are different. That's why I'm looking for a part number to resolve the issue.
So far I#m using a cut-down '36 hose, which doesn't fit perfectly.

Tom, Here are two options for you. The first is the one piece Gates hose #21253 or NAPA #NBH 7964 that Lawson mentioned in his post and looks looks like the one pictured below. This hose is 2" ID at one end and 1 3/4" ID at the other end with all of the correct angles necessary to mount between '37-'48 style heads with center inlets and '35-'36 passenger/light comm. top radiator outlets (except for PU's).

Another option for you is hose #(C)72196 that I found at Pep Boys. This one hose works well by cutting/trimming it into four pieces that can be attached to SS tubing like this kit that I bought from Speedway or possibly to the tube you already have. I did have to cut some off the one end of these SS tubes as shown in the picture below.

Hope this info helps you and maybe others who would like to do the same on their cars.

Ventilo, I can also think of two options for you. You can purchase 8ba inlets/thermostat housings with the larger hose diameter that would allow you to use a standard straight piece of hose. Flathead Jack and I believe Speedway sell these inlets.
Another thing that some have done is to first install a short piece of hose that fits on the stock 8ba inlets/thermostat housings and then slip a larger piece of hose with an ID that will fit over the first piece of hose. Then apply a hose clamp that tightens this assembly and prevents any leaks.

John,

Thank you for the Gates & NAPA numbers. Like Tom, I'm having issues trying to find correct upper hoses for my late model year 36 fordor with center inlet heads. You,ve save a lot of head scratching (so to speak).

Thanks again,

Jim

Thanks for the dimensions and the hint to use large bore thermostat housings. I wasn't aware they exist.
Good news is I can order Gates parts off the shelf here in Cologne.

Would those hoses be the same ones reqd if you put that engine in a 33or34.
thanks Lawrie

Looking at this thread got me to checking my situation. I have a stock '40 radiator which has 1-3/4" outlets, the water pumps are 1-3/4" outlets, the Offie heads have 2" outlets. This all goes in a '41 pickup. Anybody know what part numbers for the hoses on this setup?
