Wheel bearing grease

I'm getting ready to install cast iron brake drums on my roadster, so I'll naturally be repacking all the bearings, both front and back. I have at least half a VERY LARGE can of lithium wheel bearing grease I purchased from Sears in 1976 when I restored my first A (Don't know why I'm described as a "Junior Member"!), and that's what's in the bearings now. Is this what you all out there are still using? I know I absolutely should not ever mix types of grease, but if I should be using something different, I could clean them all out slick as a whistle and start over. Thanks ahead for any advice. I love this board.

I use MYSTIC J T 6 HI.TEMP.You have to post i believe at least 100 posts to be a sr. member.I think

I pay extra for Timken Bearing Grease ... because ... because ... well, because it's red.

Lithium grease is the most commonly found. Todays greases are all superior to what was available in the 30's, so I would use up what you have. Once its gone, you can start in on a higher quality grease as long as its Lithium base, or just clean out all the old stuff and switch to something different. Most disk brake greases ( extreme temps) are aluminum complex bases, but there are several high temp greases like Mystic that are still Lithium.

heres a nifty grease compatibility chart

I like red grease too

About 20 years ago I drove by Lough Motors in Seattle. They were a GMC truck dealership & going out of business. They had put all sorts of stuff out in their parking lot with a free sign. I got an unopened five gallon container of GM High Temp wheel bearing grease along with a few other things. I've been using it all these yrs. & given lots of it away I still have a lifetime supply of grease. It's good stuff.
