Hey folks!! I have been rebuilding my horn and generator for the past week. Today i brought them home from work and installed them. Im not ready to start the car yet ( thats for tomorrow!!!!! yay!!) but I was so excited to hear the horn for the first time since october. Anyway I hooked everything up and was ahoooooooooga-ing away. afterward i went to put the horn cover on and brushed the conduit with my hand and that son of a gun was hotter than heck!! I used MAC's Generator rebuild kit to rebuild, replaced the cut out with a diode version, and added a horn relay.... I figure it is a ground issue but not sure where to start looking. I unplugged every thing until I consulted you good people about these issues. Thanks yall!!!!

Both horn wires when installed are hot.The grounding takes place at the horn button to complete the circuit, unless it grounded as it did when you tried to put the cover on.There is not much clearance between the conduit & the cover,so care is needed when installing it.As for the relay, its not needed if their is good ground at button & between LS rod & steering shaft & steering box & frame.

Sorry - no direct answer (as im sadly not born in an "A").
The Horn worked well since i bought my car so i never thought about.

Im used to the fact that my Amp-meter tries a backflip once i Ahooga
(which includes the idea that big Amp might generate big heat).

Maybee you test-Ahoogaed too often beeing happy to have it back-in?

Attendant question to you specialists:
Which ammount of Amps should be measured at the horn???
(Its an electric motor; It should take most amps during ramp-up)

Thank you

Well fellas I took the conduit off the car ans the horn is working great and not getting hot. The only thing i could think of is that one of the wires may have a fray in it and it was going to the conduit. i forgot to mention that i am missing the rubber O ring that belongs in the grill shell. Everything seems to be just right now. The genny seems to be working right too. havent tested it but seems to be doing right. Thanks for yalls input as always!!

Got a 1921 and holding the horn for 2-3 seconds the switch gets really warm. Also when the headlights are on and hit the horn the lights turn off and back on when the horn is released. Was wondering if you guys could help me ? Find the problem the simplest ways . Still new to these t’s trying to learn them . ~Thanks~

I'm sure someone on The "Model A" Forum can help you but you may get more help on the "Model T" Forum.

Off the top of my head it sounds like a bad ground. Welcome to The Barn.

You guys do realise this thread is nearly 8 years old, don't you? If the problem was a bad connection, it wouldn't matter now.
