Has gasoline prices changed YOUR plans yet?

Pete, I concur. I was going to bring the ninth CA Henry car back out there to San Diego for a homecoming. However, generously calculating my rig will get 10 mpg, the 6400 mile round trip (w/o sidetracking) would run me $3200 in diesel alone ($5/gal) which I feel will be the price by then. I can't justify that expense to have five days or so at the meet. Of course that doesn't take into account hotels, meals and beer (always a big cost).

i live only about 3 hours from San Diego and due to work thinning out and the cost of fuel and hotel and food ect I have decided not to go myself.

We just drove 1043 miles at 55 mph ...Our van that usually gets 20 mpg got 28 mpg just by slowing down to 55 from 65-70... It really did not seem to take any longer for the trip driving 55 it was quite relaxing just letting all the faster drivers go by ... We saved $56.52 figuring gas at $3.80 a gallon ... Take a look at the drive 55 website at http://drive55.org/content/view/39/1/ I discovered it today ...

Gas prices have not changed any of my plans, but unemployment stating the 22nd of this month has. Will be selling afew parts, but have to be careful not to sell too much at a time as to not hurt my unemployment til things improve. Already tried my hand at selling parts for a living, went well for awhile, but trickled down at the wrong time. Rod

I drive 150 miles round trip to work,I go slower now. I passed up a auction over the weekend.(200 miles 1 way) When I go out my date has to pay 1/2,and we take her car. The boat is still sitting in the driveway. Instead of buying nails for a project,I pulled old nails out of boards and reused the nails. I reuse my coffee grounds at work for a week now. I take showers at work now instead of at home.

JEFF : I agree 100 percent with you .... I think the president should impose a national 55 MPH speed limit until the oil crisis is over Richard Nixon did that in 1983 and it worked it was safer too ... I don't think it would be necessary to have all the states change the speed limit signs however as that would be a tremendous expense for the states just proclaim the 55 national limit and publicize it on radio ,TV and newspapers across the country and the patriotic US citizens would comply knowing they were helping the country and the environment AND their pocketbook too ... Until then I will dive 55 and use the savings for my MODEL A !

One last comment I see Texas is considering RAISING the speed limit to 85 on freeways ! WOW if they do that some guys will be going 100 MPH !!!

...............THERE IS NO OIL SHORTAGE ! ...............
We have enough oil in the USA to provide us for a thousand years. We just need to drill for it !
We depend on the Mid-East countries for our oil. Whenever they have some turmoil, oil prices sky-rocket. These countries have been in turmoil for thousands of years and always will be. It's their culture. Let's get the USA out of their control !
MIKE :)

Here in LOVELY N.Y. there is a $1.80 "TAX" per gallon of gas... At $4.00 per gallon now take off the tax [GOD FORBID] and help people get to work ...$2.20 a gallon ..What happened to DRILL BABY DRILL Two years ago???? Brazil got a "SWEET DEAL" from "O" man.

I plan stuff out better and limit use of my F250. I also ride my motorcycle a lot more, and we take the smaller vehicle when taking longer trips if it makes sense. I still go where I want to however.

Mike, if we drill and use up all our oil now, what will the future generations have? and what will their opinions be of us? Lets use it up after we find a proper replacement.

High oil prices affect everything. When we cut back on eating out, going to the movies, trips, etc., someone is going to get laid off !
Like you said, "Drill, Baby, Drill !".
MIKE :)

Mike and i are right. I bought a 1 lb. loaf of bread and a gallon of milk .$6.49 ...Hello ,,its just not gas that will go up! Everything goes up because of gas!

...............THERE IS NO OIL SHORTAGE ! ...............We have enough oil in the USA to provide us for a thousand years. ...:)

So, what happens 1,001 years from now? I'm kinda being the devil's advocate and maybe a bit cynical here but - just think about it. What are those desert dwellers gonna have when their oil runs out?

I dunno, I think I'd rather use up their oil first. Wouldn't that then leave our future generations sittin' kinda pretty?

I know we'll never see it but maybe our kids' kids' kids... could use all that American oil to finally balance the budget :).

And by not using ours first, maybe our elected officials really do have enough foresight to do this type of long term planning. For anyone that may be familiar with "heartland security-type" stuff, that logic may not seem so far-fetched.

But back to the original topic - I'm not changing any plans to cut back unless I have to. It's just a matter of doing what my parents taught me to do - live within my means.

With all the talk about fuel prices, what better of an opportunity for all Model A'ers in California and Arizona to attend the MARC National Meet in San Diego in June? Sure is cheaper than driving to Michigan next summer for the MAFCA Meet or Wisonsin for the 2012 MARC Meet. The next possible open date for either club to host a National Meet in California will be 2016 and who knows how many of us will be able to attend then??

Most of us are small business owner..If we worked for the FED's there would be no problem.

I resent the notion that as a FED, I'm rolling around in wads and wads of cash. I have the same expenses as everybody else; I have a kid in college, utilities continue to rise, no pay raise in two years, no cost of living adjustment, student loans to pay off (I took out a loan to get another educational degree), a son in high school (starts driving this year.)

I still have to pay for gas to/from work and it costs me $65 every 10 days.

I have to pay 80% of my health costs

I had to pay the IRS (yep FEDS pay taxes too, just in case you were wondering.)

Getting to the point of the question, we've redone our budget and we won't be going to any Model A Meets. We have decided to go on ONE tour with our club, and we have planned a two day 'vacation' to visit family (and stay with them to save expenses.)

Yep, I'm rollin' in the dough, because I'm a criminal FEDERAL employee.

there is 'a silver lining' to every cloud..they say. sometimes, it is a small silver lining that i have to concentrate to find, but life has taught that its there if sufficiently looked for! for example, approximately six wks now, been handling everything, including typing, one handed! so, not driving/working on/buying stuff for/gassing the model As...bummer!! silver lining? well, im doing my part to conserve and walking/exercise gives benefits as well as time to think about mabe getting rid of stuff(downsizing ?). never was one for extravagance...and when seeing neighbors/friends/family losing jobs/homes,etc....silver lining kinda dims. yeah , ive changed my ways due, among other things, to rising gas prices ...but life is good!

I like Gary's thinking. With the next meets in the North US, I better take advantage of the San Diego location and take in the MARC meet this June.
I looked online at their website (www.2011MARCmeet.com) and saw a lot of great things happening. See you there, Gary!

I resent the notion that as a FED, Mike in NRN IN

Hey Mike I hear ya. I'm one too, for most of the last nearly 40 years. Just did my taxes last weekend, I didn't see any box to check that said Fed employees are exempt.... - maybe it's one of them hidden deductions :D?

But again back to the question. Not affected too much yet but it's beginning to get serious. I'd love to head out to see some of the great cars and attend shows in Cali and Washington areas. But I'll be content to stay here in Michigan and do the nice little local shows.

Hoping everyone can make the most of whatever they can afford to do, and have fun in our great and beautiful America.

I don't think that we have to worry about our ancestors, needing fuel, 1001 years from now. There will be new sources for energy. There is enough hydrogen in a bucket of sea water to run a car for years. We just need to figure out, how to get it out, efficiently.
Oil will, probably, become obsolete, before it runs out.
MIKE :)
