Block drain for 8RT

As Ronnie stated, there is a good flat spot on both sides of the block at the front. I drilled and tapped both sides and installed drain ***** for the eng. in my 51 merc., and the eng. for my 29 roadster project. I did this so I did not have to remove hoses to drain cooling system, in case cooling system maintenance. ( heater hoses, heater control valve, t-stats, even head gaskets.) I did it mostly to be able to completely drain and change out the anti-freeze every couple of years. I will say that it is best done with the eng out of the vehicle. may not be possible in the vehicle

Thanks, Alaska Jim for the input. I will put it in the brain housing group. Mine is a '50 merc block with BA heads. Don't know how you have a lot a cruising time up in the tundra country! But I know any time is great with a flattie!

The 8BA flathead block WILL NOT drain completely even with the lower radiater hose removed. I always drill and tap the 8BA blocks in the same location as the drian on the early blocks. Theres a nice flat area on each side of the block thats the perfect location to add the drain plug.

Thanks a million Ronnie. Great looking rod too!

By the way how many gal. does does my '50 flattie hold?

Chuck you will find depending on the size of the radiator the capacity will be 4 to 5 gallons.

Thanks again, Ronnie. Didn't know I was in such honored company. Congrats on the salt flat award in 2018. When you get a chance would like to see the car and what you did to the flattie to make it so fast. Thanks again.

How about a ride along as my supercharged 292 cube Flathead powered gas burning rear engine modified roadster hits hits 200 MPH. The second video is from an early test run with a 258 inch engine.

Man O man, I can't believe that is a flattie. Holy cow, that **** is wicked sounding in both videos. Were both engines supercharged? I'd love just to get mine to just be a bad *** engine with some umph! What did the 258 post for speed? I could listen to a flattie all day long. There's just something different in the sound of those beautiful engines. Even my single carb merc block, BA heads sounds good. Just don't know enough about em (my first flathead at 70 Y/O) to start building something. I'd insert a photo here, but don't know what a URL is. Thanks again, Awesome!
