Engine Hesitation

I think this has been discussed before, but.... When in third gear on my 1939 Ford, and I dump the throttle at slow speed, the engine hesitates. Is this sticky valves?

Drizle some Marvel Mystery Oil down both sides of the carb keeping it
running. Also put about 1/2 quart in the gas tank and drive the car to
mix it up good. G.M.

Hi
I would say it may be an ignition problem. Pull the distributor out and check that. Check the dwell on the points, the condenser. Then its leads plugs and coil.
If that doesnt work its the carb or the fuel supply. Is it a mechanical pump?

Back to basics.

Using an electric fuel pump continuously with the mechanical pump. Also, a Grose valve for a float valve (remember those?) Will try the Marvel Mystery Oil down the carb. Have to warn the neighbors about my mosquito control, though.

I've had this issue. Also try pulling out the dash choke a bit when taking off if you are stock. If it improves, it's not electrical. It's fuel or vacuum related. If you are at good rpm off second, shouldn't lugg much to 3rd.

Nothing wrong with smoking out a few mosquitoes. Sticky valves should be prevalent in all gears though. Low rpms under load would be more noticeable.
