Hi guys
Thanks for allowing me to join your forum and I hope you will be able to help me.
I have a 1954 f truck from Canada 239 flathead 4 speed. Dual rear wheels which I am trying to identify..
This truck was Australian delivered. The only numbers I can find are on top of the engine to the rear of the carby there are: C8BAC8Rt652C.
There is a plate attached to the left door pillar however most is illegible..
What is partially readable is:
4T3040
Gross Vehicle Weight 11000lbs
Total vehicle and load 98cwt
130 inch wheel base
I hope someone can tell me what this truck is I’m thinking F250.
I would also like to know where the engine number is located and the chassis number.
Thanks in advance.

Don't think Ford used the F250 identification in '54 but I could be wrong. If it has factory dual rear wheels it would be a 1 1/2 ton or larger rating not 3/4 ton as in a F250. Photos would help.

If it had dual rear wheels then it could have been an F350 or larger depending on wheel base. The F500 would have been 14,000 max gross weight. The 130" wheel base dual rear wheel F350 was 9,500 LB gross weight in the US. The flatheads last year was 1954 but only in Canada. The F250 max gross was 6,900 lbs but they didn't offer dual rear wheels and they were no longer than 118" in wheel base. Ford of Canada did a lot of things differently than the US. That's likely why it has the higher gross weight rating.

Did some more research and as more often than not I was incorrect. Ford went to F plus 3 numbers i.e. F250 in 1953. that said your truck would be a F500 or larger at least in the US.

These are the pages from the Ford Australia Identification Manual - 1954 Ford Trucks. Note that the terms F100, F500, F600 were not in use on these Ford Trucks until 1955. Up until then, what we refer to as an F100 was known as a Ford Freighter. That changed in 1955. Hope that this helps.

Both the 2 Ton and the 3.5 Ton Ford Trucks were available with a 130 Inch Wheelbase. These pages are from the original Australian Sales Brochure for the 1954 Ford Trucks. I hope that this helps. Regards Mercman <><

Australian 1954 Fords still retained the Flathead for the final time. This is the Engine on the 1954 Ford Truck pictured in Post 14.

The same pages in the Australian 1955 Ford Sales Brochure. Note that they are referred as an F-500. This is the first year that Ford Australia started to refer to these models as the F-Series. Compare these two pages with the ones for the 1954 Ford Trucks. The illustrations are the same, except for the Grille change and the Script on the Hood.

That looks like my old girl 130" wheelbase 11000lb GVW. Thanks for your help really appreciate it.
