Carburetor Reconditioning

Hey guys. Ok so I am not going to complain too much about the wet weather we are having in beautiful california (with some of the weather you guys are having back east), but I am unable to work on my truck. Thought I would start to tackle things I can do "inside" like reconditioning my carb.

What is the best way to rebuild/recondition a carb? My main question is how to "clean" the carb's outer surface that is rusted/has paint on it/has faded? I don't want it to polish like chrome just back to its normal condition.

HEY NEWBE;:confused:... WARNING.... any carb cleaner is very flammable, and donot breath vapors, must be done outside open air area, and so on. :mad:
There a several spray on carb cleaners, at you parts store look for carb/choke cleaner, ..I would tie a wire on the carb, and use like 5gal bucket with lid, soak the carb and put it in the bucket and snap the lid on and leave it outside overnight, ware protection, gloves and eye covers mask ect. Once you get whife of this stuff you will know what I mean... At the parts store you will find carb cleaner in a 2 quart can with wire basket inside, when you take the carb apart you can put it all in the can for a overnight soak ?? Lacquer thinner or acetone will clean some too, you can brush it around and wash it off with more of it. again ...OUTSIDE..:eek:. OPEN AIR AREA... you will find venders on the barn sell kits for the rebuild and more information just ask...... OLD....BILL :cool:
