55/56 Ford Hood underside

What should the 55/56 hood underside look like originally? Was there an insulation pad applied to the underside? Did it cover the whole panel? Can anybody attach a picture of a restored hood underside please?
Would the insulation pad be glued to the metal surface? Between the horizontal ribs?
Thanks for any good info,
Steve

Yes, there was an insulation pad(s). Below is a photo, don't know if it is authentic or not though. Available re-pro B5A 16738-C.

Did you ever get my PM/E-Mail concerning the 2nd row seat back latch?

They only had two squares of fiberglass insulation, one on each side of the air-cleaner. The pieces are available at many of the resto parts suppliers or you can cut your own out if 1 inch thick fiberglass insulation.
Probable use some spray-on rubber-to-metal adhesive on the top side of the square, then stick it on. That stuff is available at many chain auto parts stores.

Is the forward panel sprayed with undercoating originally ? Should that area just be the undercoating , black rubbery substance , like what was sprayed on the underside of the car? Would Ford have painted over this rubbery stuff the car color , or would it have remained black without paint top coat?
Thanks , just want to get it right.

None of the '55 or '56 Ford full-size cars came from the factory with any type of undercoating under the hood. Just the two insulation pieces on each side of the air cleaner.
They did use some type of spray on tar/bituminous material inside the door skins and underside of deck lid skin before the reinforcing panel is applied. Then they were painted over. As that stuff ages, it becomes extremely hard, brittle and begins to fall off. Imagine having pieces of that stuff falling on your fan blades while the engine is going 60mph. Yeah, I think just painted metal is the ticket here.
