Running Board Bracket Question For You

So the other day I am in the garage re-re-reorganizing in an attempt to find more space that I know I don't have... when I stumble over a complete set of running board brackets (that I removed from a frame several years ago) along with a great set of motor mounts with plates.

I figure someone, somewhere must want these so I decide to blast em and give a fresh coat of primer and some gloss black to seal the deal. Hopefully someone will want to put em back on the road and get some use of of em.

Anyway... I start researching the brackets and can't find anyone who reproduces them in the same style that I have. So, I'm not sure what years they might be. I am thinking that they were '28-'29 or possibly just '28. Can anyone tell me for sure what I have? Thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. Anyone need any of the parts mentioned above, please PM me.

My '30 Tudor has the stamped steel type. You need to list yours in the Swap Meet section of this website 'cause I'd bet there's a fella somewhere looking 'em.

You have the early forged brackets, not sure when the stamped steel ones replaced them.

I did some research on this, bothat at the Benson Ford Research Center and by a survey on Fordbarn a few years ago of those owning late 28 and early 29 Model A's.

The stamped steel came out in late 1928 and some car even had a mix of stamped and forged during the transition period.

Tom,
My 28 special coupe has a date stamp of 11/28/28. The frame I am using has stamped runningboard brackets. It is not the original frame, however. I am wondering whether I should convert them to forged or leave them as is. I believe there was a discussion a year or two back about the date Ford changed over to stamped brackets. I can't remember what the conclusion was of the runningboard discussion. The JG's state the switch was March 29, are they incorrect? If the JG's are correct, I should have forged brackets, but your research might prove otherwise (either type).

Henry had a thing about forgings, so the early Model A's had many more forged parts than later ones. He even forged several smaller parts. The change to the less expensive to make stamped parts was gradual in early to 'mid '28, so it is possible that vehicles could have a mix due to using up existing stock in the "pipeline". He didn't waste ANYTHING. You hear stories about Henry specifying lumber sizes for incoming shipping crates. The lumber was then used for floorboards. Panes of glass in the plants was often recycled automobile windows. Although I've not seen it myself, I wouldn't bet against it.

When I did a survey for late 28 and early 29 asking about brackets on unrestored cars, I had replies from a couple guys with gas tank dates for the last week of November 1928 with stamped running board brackets.

I helped a local old timer dissasymble a AR AA and seems like every thing was forged, moter mount backup plate, cowl mounts and front fender brackets. On my early '30 it is all stamped. The AA was a old farm doodle bug with just a cowl and a seat so the running board brackets were long gone.
