Valley oil baffle question

Unless the baffle is bent or the spring clip is defective it should not "rattle around"
Why do you ask?

Thanks for replying. I can’t get rid of a clack from the front end, set the lash, changed dizzy spacer, compression good at 150 so am now clutching at straws.

Possible its coming from Generator/Alternator? Remove vee belt and try.
I had a clack but this was at the rear, it was fuel pump and push rod.

Thanks for the advice, I've noticed some scrape marks with the tangs on the retaining clips might be touching the block so I'll move them then refit. I've tried with the fan belt off and noise still there so not the alternator or water pumps. There was a slight exhaust blow by when I put the engine back in so will move on to that after inlet manifold back on.

If you are talking about the baffle retaining clips and you are "clutching at straws".
Remove the baffles and run it (won't hurt anything)
If the noise disappears then the baffles are at fault or can be found innocent if not.

Check the crank pulley if it's one made of stamped steel. I've had more than one of them that broke the spot welds and it would make a clacking noise as the belt came around and made it spread then it snaps back in place.
