Jailbar grill mounting hardware

Anyone have a recommendation on what to use for mounting the vertical trim pieces on a jailbar ford truck? I could have sworn i saw a bolt kit online for them somewhere. But I'm unable to find them again.

thanks in advance

From what I recall these clips only work for the 3 center bars which are wider. I have had to grind all the other ones down to fit the other 18 bars. I found it was much easier to buy a box of fender washers, grind a flat on two sides and weld a 10-24 bolt into the hole as a stud. That worked well but next time I bought a piece of 1/2" x 1/8" steel strap, drill holes about an inch apart, weld in the 10-24s and then chop the strap into strips. Believe me, either one is easier than grinding the individual formed steel clips. I found that on the steel strap version I had to radius the end towards the curve in the grill bar. Now it comes back to me that you want to cut the strap with the stud much closer to one end than the other. You radius the short end. Sounds like a pain, and it is. I always wanted to write to c and g and tell them they don't work, but I would just end up getting busy and making my pwn because I get impatient and want to get the job done.

good info, thanks for posting that. I had already ordered the other clips. Hopefully I can just cut them with some sheet metal shears.

guess i'll find out soon :)

Tried that. My shears are dull yard sale stuff. With good ones you might just shear the edges off and be good to go!

Know nothing about the Mounting Bolts on these Trucks, but make sure you have the Bars in the correct order. Seems like the owner of this nice Ford has some of the Bars in the wrong location?

Looks to me like correct bars in proper order. They are able to slide up and down for adjustment and that's where I think this guy has fallen down. The heights need some adjustment and the center bar is obviously too low, and the two outermost bars are always problematic. They have a sort of cutaway section in the back to overlap the grill panel and never seem to lay down like they should. He has the wrong 'yellow' for sure. I've seen people do them in chrome, black, white and now this yellow. They only look right in tacoma cream.

They seem to be bowed inwards. I have found all the bars extremely difficult to straighten once bent. More than once I have contemplated making a set from hardwood and painting them the TC. They would just screw on from the back through the existing holes. But's that's just me.

Them bars can be tricky. There is a sequence. My first jailbird was a puzzle. Took a few hrs. Best way to cut the mounting tabs is a with a hand held cut-off wheel.

yeah, I foresee a pita putting the bars on in the near future. Nice trucks guys. What size tires are you running on that Marmon Harrington? is that a 46 or 47?

Pic of my project. blasted the chassis, lightly sanded with original paint.
Working on what tires I want to go with.

42ford, tire size on our 46MH truck is 8.25x20. I like your black paint. Wow, what a difference from your header pic. Is this the same truck? 46-47? You going with the dump body? Keep us up to date on that project. :)

In my opinion, there is definitely something wrong with the two very outside bars?

The color combo is not for me.... but it’s not my truck...... I’ve never owned one or worked on one.... but it looked like the left and right are on the wrong sides....Mark

Yes, its the same truck. I decided to go with another body since the original cab needed a bunch of fab work. I still have all the 42 panels, the front clip isnt terrible. basically the entire 3-4 inches of the cab was shot. I am planning on putting the dump box back on it.

Do those 8.25 rub at all? do you think 9.00 would fit? it would only be for the sake of a few more mph would be the reason to go with 9.00.

42ford, They would rub if turning into a bump. So , what I did was take off 3/8 (hard to see/notice) needed at the lower edge of fenders. They don't rub no more. i bet them 9's will rub. I know about the speed on these trucks, lol. The fenders you have now are from a 1.5 ton? I only ask cause there is a difference on the front fenders. The commercial fenders are 3/4-1" bigger wheel area than regular pickup fenders which of course you'll need for 9's if u run them.

Yes, I'm running 1.5 ton fenders etc... I'm assuming you have the larger fenders? 9 will probably be a bit much. At some point I think I'll work on a transmission upgrade that supports PTO, that has OD. makes the most sense I think. Instead of an aux transmission, or swapping gears. I'd be worried about power with 5:14's. I have an almost new set of 7.25x20 on it now. They still have the new tire nubs on them. close to zero dry cracks. I'll have them for sale at some point.

Was cleaning my bars tonight and noticed they have small drain holes in the bottoms. If they got painted they could be hard to see.

Yes, I have the larger fenders. Tires like that are getting harder to find unless you purchased them new which isn't no blue light special.
