Voltage regulator adjustment

I burnt out another 6 volt regulator on the circuit breaker coil, I thought I did the adjustment right because the car was charging. I have a service manual and I'm having a hard time understanding the adjustment process. Is there an easy way to adjust these, I mean it doesn't seem that hard but obviously I am having issues with adjusting it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is no easy way. It takes some sophisticated equipment and know how to make adjustments to the voltage regulator.

It is not easy! This is not on adjustment, but it has some good general information.

I assume you "polarized" it after install. (I believe you quickly touch a jump wire to the two outer terminals, been over 50 years since I did it.)

As a teen this was one of those "I know" mechanican things you remembered after frying a regulator. Besides you looked cool to others while explaining and doing it.Chap

The old Ford manuals of the 8BA era at least have instructions and show the required equipment to properly adjust them. Without the proper equipment, it's simply by guess and hit & miss. The voltage regulator pole can be adjusted if it is out of spec and same with the current limiter. Just playing with these two pole adjustments is asking for problems. A person needs to understand the system and how it functions to get best results.

Women are funny like that too.

When I was an auto electrical apprentice in the early 1960s it took me 5 years to learn repair and adjustment of all the different voltage regulators. An Analog voltmeter and ammeter automotive test set is required here to set regulators correctly NOT digital multimeters. You cant expect to be able to learn to repair or set regulators in an hour or two. A photo of your cooked up regulator would help me determine what has gone wrong here. Don't mess with it if you don't know exactly what you are doing. A little knowledge can be dangerous. Regards, Kevin.

And when the connection to the 2 resistors on the back corrodes no adjustment in the world will fix it....
Without thoose resistors the cutout will not work as intended.
