After Market Seat Belts

I've seen Factory? Seat belts installed and the mounts are bolted down on surface of carpets. Reading instructions, they are supposed to be mounted directly to the floor boards. Another item is I like the male ends mounted outboard, but yet if I understand, the Female ends should be mounted outboard. I think it's a bad place for when they fall out the door.
Another question, are seats bolted directly to the floor or on top of the carpet?
Lastly, in a three piece carpet installation, is the first piece mounted in front of cab with successive ones mounted back, overlapping, from there?

I installed seat belts in my avatar. Instructions did not specify under or on top of the carpet. Seat frame is also bolted on top of the carpet. I too put male ends outboard for the reason you stated. I think the most important point is to install and use them......they do save lives!!

I'v seen belts mounted over and under the carpet. Personally, I try to cut a hole in the carpet to bolt directly to the floor, but this is for cosmetic reasons.

As far as the male end mounted outside, all my regular cars are mounted this way and that is the way I mount the ones in my old cars.

As far as the three piece issue, I have never encountered this situation but in my opinion you would mount the front first and work backwards.

It doesn’t really help, with your questions, but you might take take a look at these guys. They made the belts for my 55 bird in the old style web, and the web on metal buckles. I didn’t pay the huge premium for the buckle to say “Ford” in the licensed script.

In the old days, some mounted with thru bolts, and plates, some had laced devices that mounted to eye bolts, etc. Their on line catalog isn’t great it’s worth a phone call.

Modern design belts, try Juliano’s, they’ve got a whole section on belts.

On both a 54 and my 55, I started the carpet install in front and worked back. The seats bolt to the floor, with a stud at the rear that goes down through a body mount with the nut under the car. I put the male part of the belts on the outside, the way factory belts are. On the 55 two door, I removed the hand hold from the B pillar, enlarged the hole and made a captured nut to hold the supplied bolt for a three point belt. Not as strong as modern cars, but maybe enough to hold my head inside the car should a door come open. I bought three point belts from Julianos, very nice parts.

I have to look at mine, but believe I have the big washer on top of the carpet. I used something bigger/thicker on top that I found at Ace Hardware and old front end lower control arm washers from the bottom.

I'm replacing the underpayment with better quality material and placing a Dynamat like substance in specific areas. The foot area of front and rear seats need help for example. Auto Parts Warehouse seems to be the place to buy the loop 3piece carpet. Free shipping sold the deal for $250. Second Company: AC carpets 300.00, including $70 to ship.

I covered my floor Fat Mat and got my carpet from ACC as well. 2 years ago it was $180.. just looked and now its $319....

Take a look at two blog entries (link for the entries is below) when you have time. I used belts from Juliano's and went the three point setup up front and lap belts in the back. The blog entries both show setup and finish work for interior trim, location, etc. I was very satisfied and the wife was probably even more happy with the whole works than I was when she "inspected" everything. :)

The aftermarket belts we see are all made by the same company, just that everyone sells them at different $$. Mine came from Wesco, got the hardware for the 3rd point there too.

I was not able to use the 3rd point bolts, they were too short to go through my pillar garnish. I got longer grade-8 bolts at Ace and machined up some bushings.
