Its been so long since I have used Dwell Meter and Tach and by the way got rid of them few yrs back thinking will never use them or timing light again.

So what special tools do you use and what is required to maintain the A'?

Do you use dwell or timing light..Joe

Sometimes we feel the need to use tools to make proper repairs. Torque wrenches, timing lights, dwell meters, etc. were not invented nor used back then and Model A's were repaired successfully without them.

And as a result of those tools not being available there are no torque specs, timing marks, or dwell specs. When these numbers are given they are being created based on some ones best guess and were never issued by Ford.

I believe Ford did issue some torgue specs after production for service?

Other that the Ford factory tool kit, KR Wilson made a large number of tools for maintaning the model As such as replacing bushings, pulling stuborn axles, etc. They are prized collectibles now. Some are being reproduced but most are not as well built as the originals.

The tools are not as important as the hands they are in. Job knowledge and logic are the first requirement for troubleshooting. When you can sketch the Model A electrical system from memory and describe the path of the fuel from tank to exhaust, you are ready to trouble shoot and maintain your A with no more than the factory tool kit.

For timing I don't use any thing special except for a light bulb.
