1935 Panel Delivery Year/Model conundrum

Don,

I hope that you bring it to Dearborn in June. I too saw it at Springfield; it's a knockout!

About two years ago I met a guy at a local show with a beautiful 1939 white pickup.
He mentioned he had another crash damaged truck, waiting to hear more whether it could be for sale to help complete my one, fingers crossed. Sadly mine has the dreaded chassis rot in the rear where these tend to rot away so with any luck this will help a great deal for the restoration.

Hi, your panel van looks really tidy, how bad is the chassis? I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to swap it as they are quite simple and you can repair them quite effectively.

I think on first instinct it was pretty bad, now that it’s braced and body is off it’s actually not as bad as it seems. I think it’s repairable, make up the sections, weld in and maintain plum, true and level. Going to a swap meet tomorrow so maybe scrunt around for other bits too

Yes, it's surprising what can be reclaimed if you go carefully - I did a Bentley chassis a couple of years ago that had been chopped in half and left in a garden for a decade!

Having established this is a 35 Panel Truck, all except for the hood, sides and grill shell as 36, I’m now curious regarding the fenders.

If I was to source the correct 35 hood sides and grill (unlikely as apparently these are sought after by all and sundry) how would they fit with my front fenders?

If there is that roughly 2 inch difference in the 36 grill shell depth is the shortfall made up in the 35 having a longer hood and sides?

Dudley, A 35 grille shell will fit perfectly since your fenders are 1935 fenders. Even though 35, 36 and 37 front fenders are interchangeable, 35 fenders are unique since they have closed fender bracket holes.
