I'm in need of the pan that goes under the bell housing of my 1953 Ford Victoria V8. I think the 52-53 Mercury is the same. The part number is 6409, I think. :)

The '51 (regular production) to '53 Mercury and '52-'53 Ford use the same lower inspection cover.

They are hard to find. Many times you can find the bell housing for sale but the cover plate is missing. I'm sure there are some are still out there but maybe not so easy to find.

This type is a cast iron bell housing set up for the later 52 & 53 Ford type transmissions with the narrow Borg Warner bolt pattern as well as the late 51 through 53 Mercury which used the same transmission as the Ford cars. They do have a separate starter plate on the front as well as the inspection cover on the bottom. The late 51 Mercury type was the only one that still had the rotating equalizer shaft. The rest all use the lever type throw out actuator arm.

This link from Mac VanPelt's site has an illustration for the type.http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_trans-adapters.htm

Is this the part you want? PM me if so.
