Just bugs me to death

Certainly not "garage" terms in most shops. But when writing contract language (which I did during much of my career) - those terms are often used. Dam' legalese!

BTW, didn't tire become tyre when pint became liter, or when yard became meter? :o:D
what "colour" was it?

I bough a mag the other month and it had the history of the merlin engine, turns out ford Dagenhem in the UK made heaps of them in ww2 not so in the usa.
i think it was about 50%

The story I heard was that RR engineers, approached Ford with the blueprints of the Merlin regarding production of same. Very Haughty like...." I suppose these would be beyond your abilties?'
To which the Ford engineers ,after studying the blueprints replied "On the contrary- you'll need to tighten up the tolerances considerably in order for us to manufacture these"
Ford, with their mass production lines, ran tighter tolerances than RR, where everything was hand fitted which could not possibly work in mass production

Brian I know thats the story about the USA plant ,but I,m not sure about the UK plant, anyway my mates(friends) boat went 170 mph with one in it,I drove it at about 100 and that was scary enough.

4 pages, is this turning into "what I did on my lunch break" ?
Merry Christmas to all of you.

For the number of people here who spell brake as break.

Maybe that post should read.......

"what I did in my lunch brake"

It would probably sound correct to them.

Tires/tyres have “treads”...... your clothes are held together with “threads”.......Merry Christmas to all......Mark

Woodie?? Oh, you mean Shooting Brake.

In Southeastern Massachusetts, where I lived for a while they were often called 'beach wagons'. Much easier to use in a sentence. For instance, "I just posted a picture of my woodie in the internet."
