The crank mechanism is right there in post #15. Or is that not your truck?..... Mark
That is not my truck. I just showed that pic to see if the screws I had circled needed to be removed.

If it slides off the crank shaft how does the crank handle come off? I thought there was a clip on the backside of the panel that holds the handle on.OK, I believe the '37 dash is very sim to my '38 so here goes. Look under the bottom edge of the dash overhang. I believe that you should find the screws that hold it to the dash. You will probably have to remove the interior pillar trim on each side of the windshield first as they may sit over the edge of the top of the dash panel. Note that the window crank comes off with the dash top panel. You do not have to remove it first as it should slide off the windshield crank shaft. Remove these pieces and you will have access to the crank mechanism.

Gottya. So...with the windshield crank not working what are my options for getting the windshield open to remove those 6 screws? If it's the crank handle that is stripped out could a fellow reach under the dash with a pair of channel locks and turn the shaft to open the windshield? (what direction on the handle opens the windshield) It's 97 degrees today with a heat index of 105 so I'm not going to spend a lot of time in the garage after work checking this out. May have to wait til next week when the weather is more user friendly. You will have to open the windshield to get the dash screws out. There are six that are behind the windshield frame.

The regulator is bolted to the dash with two screws from the bottom. Look at the two slots in the pic below. Apparently, the two screws go up through the two slots visible in the pic. Seems like IF you can get the two screws out, and that if you can release the clip for the hand crank knob, the windshield frame should push open with the regulator still attached to it, so that you can get to the screws that you can't see now. I'm gonna suggest that YOU do all of this YOURSELF before-hand, as the morons that you will likely find at the local glass shop ain't gonna have a clue, nor are they gonna give a rat's *** about your antique truck problems. With that, he just might give it a shot with a hatchet and make what you have FUBAR! Good luck!! DD

Just took a look. I can see the screws but no way to get to them. My windshield is loose but it looks like the last time the windshield was cranked shut it totally stripped out and is now stuck. The only thing I can get to from under the dash are the 2 bolts the hold the regulator in place. Everything else is sandwiched between the dash panel and I guess you could call it a sub dash panel. How in the heck can I get the windshield to crank out is a real head scratcher. I sure there have been others with this same problem. I just need one of them to read this post.It sounds like the regulator is holding it closed. Can you reach the screws that hold the regulator arms to the windshield frame? If so, remove them and the windshield should push open.
Here is another regulator picture. You may be able to cut the screw heads off between the dash and windshield. Maybe a little dremal cutoff wheel.
Ok, now for the rest of the story? How did you get it to open?
