Hotter Plug?

Any advantage to using a hotter plug than Champion H-10 in a rather tired 59A? Plugs are currently very black although electrodes are not burnt and I don't know how old they are so I thought I'd just replace them. Also, could a hotter plug do any harm and what would a good replacement plug be?

Thanks,

Dan

NGK B6L is the cross to Champion H-10.
NGK B4L is one step hotter.
(NGK's numbering system is opposite of domestic)

A shift from b6-l. To B4-L will change the running temp of the plug by 100 deg C.

Run the hotter plug. If you should get any pinging, change back. I really wouldn't expect you to have a problem.

H-10 Champions stock for my stock 59 AB but H-11's appear to burn best. Once tried Autolite 216's and saw not difference. The H-11's last a long time.

I run B6L and they are the same lenght as H-10 so should be a direct fit.

The plugs with tips reaching out a bit seams to cope better with really worn engines...should be the J series in Champion if im not totally wrong...

I'm sorry, you are correct. Still be careful running the longer reach, they can and will hit valves with a hotter than stock cam. I learned the hard way!
