1951 F2 Information

I have a F2 tailgate that is in pretty nice condition. I bought it thinking it was an F1, got it home to fit up and found it is about 5 inches longer. I was going to cut it to make it fit but just couldn't bring myself to do it. If you are still interested since I just saw your add I could provide some pics.

I owned a 51 F2 back in the day, it was awesome, had general tires up front and the grill was all chrome, fire red, swapped out the flathead for a 302 with C4, stock rear end and that truck flew like a rocket sold it to buy my first house and have missed it ever since, loved the 8ft bed it was really nice.

Yeah I didn't know it was an F2, the guy that sold it to me said it was an F1, but after doing research and finding the plate hiding under dirt and paint, I found an F2 marking on it. Then later found that the truck was built here in Long Beach California, and used to haul metal from Huntington beach to Riverside.

Patience is the key. Some offers are bogus so be careful about how you handle the deal. You will eventually find the right parts. Scott (52 F3) was like a bulldog chasing down the parts he got. And as he said sometimes you have to buy more than you want then sell off the extra stuff.

Very True I just bought a 50 express bed but the pockets on the corners are shot and so is the tailgate.

I looked on LMC and they sell pockets for both 48-50 and 51-52 but I'm not sure if the Express bed is taller then the F1 short bed. I know I should put the straight pockets on but I do like how the earlier bed pockets are curved. I'm not sure what route to go now because if I keep the curved ones then she's not really stock anymore. what are your thoughts

Kinda depends on where you want to end up. If you are wanting to keep your truck 100% original then you know the answer, LOL! If you just want a nice looking truck to drive around, then I would say it is a very minor modification if it is something you like.

True, good point, I guess I kind of answered my own question, LOL! I think I am leaning more toward having the curved ones I like how they look and gives it a little more detail I suppose I can always change them out to the straight ones later on. Except I'm not sure if they are wielded on, or Crimped on. Do you know by chance?

I have a 48 express bed. The bottoms of the front pockets are rusted out. The rest of the bed is great. I posted up on the FTE forum and another member cut them out of a scrap bed and sent them to me for shipping. They are spot welded on.

Here's the stake pocket cut out and what it looks like after drilling out the spot welds.

Crap, Spot Wielded, I have never done any wielding before is it hared? I found on LMC website that they sell new Pockets, but I'm not sure if the express bed is taller then the F1 bed. Or if they are the same height. I was tempted on buying them new (the 1950 style ones) but now Ill have to see how to spot wield them.

I didn't think anyone sold the stake pockets for the express beds. Maybe they do now?

Just drill holes in the stake pocket flange and weld the holes shut. Rosette weld, plug weld, whatever you want to call it.
