1954 Mercury gas tank

Does anyone know if a '55-'56 Ford passenger car gas tank will fit a 1954 Mercury? They look the same to me.

I Don't think so. Filler neck location and/or sending unit location a little bit different maybe.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do some more checking. Any idea if the 52-54 ford is the same?

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking a '52 thru '56 Ford tank would work in a '54 Mercury, since they all have the filler neck at the rear/center. The gage sender should be in the middle/top of all too. Unless there is a difference in the filler neck length or angle. Even if not, should be able to be easily modified to work.
