transmission oil pump

Can anyone tell me a brand or better yet provide a picture of the pump they use for getting oil into Flathead three speed. I need to change the oil and the squeeze method doesn't work well.

Thanks.

I use a pump in the bottle...

I too use a pump-in-the-bottle style. Fits onto different product bottles. I use a piece of copper tubing in the discharge end so I can bend a hook into it to fit different plugs etc.

The pump in the bottle is OK, cheap, does the job, just keep an eye on it as in time the hoses can start popping off as someone said. Makes a bloody mess of an already crappy job.

I don't use a pump. I just cut the end off the bottle nozzle, put my thumb over it, turn the bottle upside down and lift it up into the space next to the transmission, then simultaneously insert the bottle nozzle into the hole while removing my thumb, then squeeze. No muss. No fuss.

My method was confirmed best when I once had Jiffy Lube change the transmission oil. They used some kind of pump to pump the oil in from a bottle and ended up with such a mess and waste of oil.

I buy my gear oils (Sta Lub 95w and 140w) from Amazon (low prices and free shipping) and bought my loose hand-pump there. Works fine.

"why pump when all you have to do is unscrew the shift lever and pour it in?"

cas3, Nope! That's what I said, too. But I like Ronnie's idea better.

I suggest you delete your post like I did .... and get busy fabricating your converted garden sprayer oil filler system ... for "about $25.";)

How long before the garden sprayer pump swells up from the oil you leave in it?

Who cares! I like things that are more complicated, cost more and make a bigger mess.

I'm sick and tired of doing things the easy way.

OK, let's put joking aside ... and go back to the original question posted by "37pickup." (For the sake of the archives.)

Although he asked about a pump, those of us who own early Ford pickups with top-loaders know that there is an easier way to add oil to the truck's transmission. He may not be aware of anything other than pumping it in.

Was he asking specifically about a 37 pickup? I asked. He did not answer so I checked his profile and found he most likely was.

Removing the stick and pouring the oil in through the top is the easiest and most effective way of adding oil ... just as "cas3" posted. Spec is for 2.5 pints or 5 cups. You can still check the fill hole for fill level.

If you are trying to help "37pickup" that is the advice you give him. If you do not fully understand his situation, you will give him advice on pumps, maybe even how to fabricate one.

RTFQ .... "Read the ____ question" is the most frequent advice given to folks preparing to take any kind of test. It is great advice here.

Apologies to Ronnie for joking about his well-intended information. It somehow reminded me about asking, "What time is it?" ... and being told how to build a watch.

Anyone who prefers to pump oil into their top-loader is certainly doing fine but just working a little harder.
