New guy with a new perspective

Afternoon guys, I am new to the forum and new to early fords. Believe it or not I used to build/look for late 60's early 70' chevrolets only. My quest for every build was to be the fastest guy in town. I would start a build with a stock car and the next thing I know I am buying my gas at the local airport and getting 5 mpg. I learned just like everyone else that there is always someone faster than you. Up until a few years ago I had never heard a running flathead but when I did it changed my world. I will never forget the first time I called H&H flatheads. Mike answered the phone and I asked, what does it take to make 300hp out of my flathead? He response, $30k and blower. What an eye opener that was. It's hard to explain how my desire to build 750hp big block chevys went to nothing and my obsession for early fords with flatheads and Y blocks became everything. Anyway I happy to be here and eager to soak up a lot of knowledge that you guys all have.

Welcome to the forum. There are some guys here that have experienced about anything you run across in a flathead and are generous in sharing.

welcome to the "Barn.....hey, you could drop 55K and get yourself an Ardun fully built with blower, etc.....300 plus horsies....lol....it's a sickness.....Mike

I never in a million years thought the words "I am hoping for 180hp from my new motor" would ever come out of my mouth.

Welcome to the obsession that we all share . . . it is a true sickness, but a lovely one!

I've built a lot of different engines, but there is something about building flatheads that has stuck with me since I was 15. I still love engines of all kinds, but flatheads have a soft spot in my heart . . . and in my barn! LOL

Welcome, for many of us here it's not about horsepower. It's about nostalgia, the styles, sounds and smells of the early V8's.

Welocme, for many of us here it's not about horsepower. It's about nostalgia, the styles, sounds and smells of the early V8's.

Welcome to the addiction. Like many here, I am in Seth's camp. Though I normally paint them green, I take my flatheads 'black', like my coffee.

Welcome! Agreed. It's about the nostalgia, not the horse power rating. It is fun to see how much power you can squeeze out of the worlds most expensive water heater. They sure do sound good though, and everyone loves seeing them at shows.

You'll quickly learn the flathead mantra.....

"You've never paid so much to go so slow."

Enjoy!

I really feel sorry for you, because this disease is incurable.. I did get 175 out of a Hydro engine. and 235 from a blown engine. But I think the reliability factor of these engines is very low. But i'm still looking.
