Not a drop light, but I have a couple of the halogen Torchiere lamps in our living room. They are 500 Watts each using those 5" halogen bulbs. They were continually self consuming themselves due to the heat they generated. Both lamps died again this past week. While I am very familiar with how to rebuild them, I really didn't want to go that route again. (Been there, done that, have the T-shirt to prove it.)
So, this weekend, I decided to convert both of them to LED. Bought the parts at Antique Lamp Supply on line, and the bulbs at Sam's club. Total cost including the bulbs was $60 for both lamps. Power consumption was reduced from 1,000 watts to 96 watts. And the light output is actually much better than the old halogen bulbs.

My drop light story:
The only brand new car I ever purchased was in 1968. I had only had the car a month or two when I was doing something that required a drop light. I hung it on the rear view mirror. It was only there briefly when the heat from the light broke the mirror. The car model was new enough that the dealers didn't have a replacement, so I had to wait for a replacement from the factory. Needless to say, I got rid of all my incandescent drop lights from then on.
Currently in my garage, I have a couple of fluorescent drop lights that I have been using for years.
