Engine Green

I recently read a thread that seems to answer a question I have on the engine green paint. I purchased this can of engine paint and was very dissatisfied with the color.

Here are some poor pictures not taken in sunlight that show the valve cover painted with this paint, compared to the engine on my other car that was painted back in 1966. I also compared this to two other local Model A's and all three have a much greener color. This one appears to have a grey look more than green.

The thread talked about the Canadian built engines having a different green and I think it was mentioned that the "Ford Green" refers to that Canadian color.

I am just wondering if that makes sense and some of the part suppliers may be selling the paint I bought without realizing the difference.

I have already bought the John Deere Green at my local Tractor Supply and have the black also. I will be using the 2 part Green and 1 part black to get the proper color for my engine.

yea i have a few spraycans of the stuff bought from different suppliers. @ of them were the "normal" green, one was a blueish greyish green that was alot darker in color.

I bought both the spray can and the pint from Macs and was totally satisfied. Mixing your own paint is the enemy of consistency. Notify the vendor and request a solution. Wayne

As I remember, originally the Ford engines did NOT have an 'iron-clad' consistency in the exactitude of the paint color of it's FORD ENGINE GREEN. I would suspect that there was a factory 'dictate' of the formula, but the actual colors varied and strayed a bit from the 'fixed' formula.

So I would not stress too much about trying the replicate the 'exact', 'correct' color of FORD ENGINE GREEN, as in reality, while being 'close' to the the engineer's specs., it did vary somewhat when being applied at the various plants and time frames, and availability.

good point, my only issue is that I would guess the engine and trans colors should match correct?

It's not always easy to mix the paint well too. I always shake the spray cans for 2 minutes minimum.
The paint could of been sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for a few years.
I would try having the can shaken on a power shaker to see if the color improves.
Paint with lead in it seems to be so much better in quality than the paints now available.
