Beware of Scammer

I posted an ad looking for a Edelbrock intake for a Y block about 10/10/2016. About 3 days later was contacted by someone from the HAMB if I was still looking for the manifold and left his email address if I was still looking. I contacted and he sent pic's of 3 intakes a 3 duece and 2 Edelbrock 2x4's. We agreed at $250.00 including shipping on the 2x4 intake. Everything was done via text or email. No phone conversation as he SAID he was hearing impaired. Payment was to be Money Gram as his PayPal acct. was dormant. I paid that day against my better judgement. Come Friday eve. sent me a text Fed Ex would not ship till Monday due to weather. Come Monday then Grandson was in hospital. I asked for a phone call from a family member and he said he would have son call me soon 9never happened) Now there is no communication. He joined the HAMB one day prior to this and was off by one day after. His info. is Terrilyn Wierz 3612 E. Esther St. Orlando Fl.. 813 603 0720. oldterryw57@yahoo.com If this person makes good on this I will definitely post an apology but I don't think I'll hold my breath.

The fact that he joined the Hamb just before your deal should have thrown up a red flag immediately! Sorry you got taken! This kind of thing hurts all of us honest car guys.

Hey Guys....Update....This afternoon my G.F. called the fraud line for Money Gram and the piece of work hadn't picked up the money yet from WalMart yet. It looks like he didn't have the proper credentials to receive the money. My girlfriend just got home with all my money including the $9.95 fee. I really hope this posting helps the rest of you car guys. I learned my lesson for sure....

Woo Hoo!!!

Glad it turned out well for you. Someone upstairs is definitely looking out for you. Those Money Gram payments should be an automatic red flag by now but there's always a back story out there why they are using Money Gram and not something more secure.

Woo Hoo x 2

Glad you got your hard earned money back,
and you will also be a wiser man in the future

thas great news im always real wary espicially here in uk im waiting for a 4 barel inlet via ebay from us, if money is pp as gift i dont think there protection? well done anyways

I know a lot of seller's, including myself, who prefer to use the "gift" option when someone is paying with paypal. Why give paypal the money when it is your money? They still get their fees.

Yep, I agree.
Their percentage is pretty stiff for a 'processing fee'. I wish we all had some of their stock

The gift thing makes no sense. It just shifts the fee from the seller to the buyer. When asked to do that, I just add the fee to what I send and that way I'm still covered.

I thought there are NO fees to buyer or seller when you send as Gift.

I think the buyer looses any Paypal protection when sending as a gift tho.

You better take that little lady out for dinner, and I don't mean Burger King, either! DD

Always google the address they give - your address listed above is for a house that was for sale (sold on 10/16) on zillow and a few other realtor sites... Ive had it before where they give a phony address that doesnt exist. Or they do what happened to you and just pick a house for sale and use its address - easy to make up a fake story about just moving or needing to sell parts for moving money or need space etc.

Which yes I know people move and do need money/space but there were several other red flags...mainly the money gram...

I was victimized in the same manner. Money Gram allows you to send cash which is easily done. I should have had the individual send a photo of the part and of himself. My thief was in Texas. I contacted State Attorney General who could take no action because it was a person and not a business that stole from me. This needs more publicity!

There are no fees if you use your bank account (which I won't do), but if you use a credit card, there are fees. And, yea, the few bucks extra pays for eBay's protection -- which I have had to make use of in the past.
